We were at Trader Joe's today in Centreville, VA (as well as Aldi Foods in Manassas, VA--read my post on new store opening soon!) shopping and I asked if Trader Joe's (TJ's) had planned to expand into Loudoun County in the near future. A Store Manager told us that in August 2012 TJ's would open a store in Sterling, VA at the old Borders bookstore that had recently closed.:)

That will be a great addition to your shopping area. Since we live in Fauquier County on our farm, sometimes we shop in Centreville and Manassas areas at Aldi Food and TJ's which is owned by a German-based parent company. We love their canned goods,, frozen foods, and other special food products.

    Enjoy!

Wish it were in Ashburn, but Sterling is cool too =)

I heard this but was skeptical, seems like the rumor is gathering credence. I can't think of a less ideal location though - parking around there is limited (and look at the jams they get in Reston) and it's right slap bang in the middle of horrible traffic! Yuck.

I heard it from another source as well. I'm thrilled to have one closer than Reston.

Why Sterling? No place in Ashburn?

Would have been better if it was in Ashburn.

Exactly, it's really only just down the road from the Reston location! But where? They seem to favor small-medium size commercial property in non-strip mall locations with the worst parking on the planet. That pretty much eliminates Ashburn!

Inside the Secret World of Trader Joe's...

The retailer's foodie roots and quirky in-store culture date to the original Joe. Joe Coulombe (pronounced COO-lomb), now 80, opened the first Trader Joe's 43 years ago in Pasadena to serve a sophisticated -- but strapped -- consumer. He named the store Trader Joe's to evoke images of the South Seas. He stocked it with convenience-store items and good wine.

I used to go to the store in South Pasadena, which was the first one. If you think the parking out here is bad, try that one some time...

This is great news! I usually go to Reston or Centreville, but both locations are so out of the way. I have sent multiple emails to TJ's for a couple of years asking when they would come to Ashburn, but I am happy that they have chosen a location that I pass by frequently.

x2. Seems too close from the Reston location.

On the other hand, I think the closed Bloom location in Leesburg is a good site for a "decent" supermarket.

I friend of my boyfriend works for a commercial RE company in Sterling and said he just signed a deal with Trader Joes. He couldn't tell me where it was going but did say they were coming.

Just confirmed earlier today with the managers at the Centreville store where we shop primarily that the Sterling Borders will be a Trader Joe's--lease has been negotiated and finalized per the District Manager and Store Managers.

Also, confirmed today with Aldi Foods' Store Management that Aldi will be opening later this summer 2012 at the old Shoppers Food Warehouse in Chantilly, VA.

So, let's recap; on Feb 19th you post that you talked to managers of the Centreville store and you claim they stated a TJ store was coming to Sterling. 10 days later, an article in Leesburg Today, and on a couple other sites, states the following:

    Full article here: http://www.leesburg2day.com/business/article_b1ebd5c0-62fe-11e1-bcda-0019bb2963f4.html

Today, you post the very same statement/rumor.

Personally, I'm going to trust the official statement by the Director of Public Relations for Trader Joe's, since it's the only 'official' word we have, other than hearsay/rumors. To me, at this point, I won't believe it until I hear it from someone directly from TJ or see it on this web page: http://www.traderjoes.com/stores/coming-soon.asp

    Sorry Foodie.
