As a Broadland's resident and parent, I enjoy walking along the trails and utilizing the the community park areas as most residents do. However, I do not enjoy all the doggie poop along the trails, on the sidewalks, and in the grass at the play areas. There are poop bags conveniently located every few blocks with handy disposal bins beneath them. Please remember to use them doggie parents. I acknowledge that it is not the majority of doggie parents leaving the poop but the few that are not responsible doggie parents really get me fired up! I have a toddler that loves to go for walks and that means that little person steps right in the poop piles if I am not fast enough to stop it...yes we have gone through SEVERAL pairs of shoes recently. Please be a responsible doggie parent and clean up after your pooch!

    Thank you.

While I don't have a dog and I agree with the sentiment, at this time of year it may well be the geese. Their output looks similar to a dog's and they are prolific.

Yes, the geese are prolific this time of year. However, in my opinion, there is a considerable size difference in geese droppings and doggie droppings, pending the size of the doggie. I have observed several LARGE scale piles. I apologize if I am too graphic.

Unfortunately, those who don't poopy scoop give us responsible owners a bad name. I recently saw a pile on the corner in my neighborhood in the middle of the sidewalk. Gross!

I have been meaning to post a NAUGHTY NAUGHTY reminder as well for all doggie owners. We have noticed a naughty parent not picking up: Old Wood Way, Hidden Pond Place, Springwell, Vestals Gap! Come on people! No, it's not fun to pick up. But is is being thoughtful to others! Please pick up!

Seems like there are a lot of people who want all the fun of owning a dog but none of the hassle of taking care of one and picking up after it. Unfortunately it only takes a few people not picking up on their dogs on a regular basis to litter the neighborhood with lots of "presents".

I can't tell you how much poop I find up in my yard. I back to the trail and it seems some people allow the dogs to do their business in my front and side yards rather than even making it to the trail. Really gross since there are small children in and around my yard. I'm also amazed at the people who bring their dogs to pee in my (and other neighbors) yard rather than their own yards. If it harms your lawn/flowers doesn't it make sense it does the same to other peoples yards? okay I'm finished

I had a problem with a specific dog pooping in my back yard. After a quick internet search, I responded by spritzing the area with a water/cayenne pepper solution in a spray bottle. (the internet said it was safe for dogs). Problem Solved (for me, anyway!)

I recently got a dog and was worried about picking up (didn't do that 20 years ago in Leesburg as a kid). Leesburg was a much different (rural) place in the 80's- early 90's

Huge Kudos to the HOA or whoever made the decision to put those Mutt Mitts everywhere. That could be one of the greatest products invented. I also ordered three cases from Amazon just in case there are not enough.

They really make picking up after the dog painless and it is not bad at all with the mutt mitts.

Some prefer to use FREE newspaper bags. It is not an issue of cost. You're right...pick up 5 FREE mutt mitts and tie them around the handle of your leash. Then you'll always have one.

Well, 'free' is subjective. The HOA pays for those, and thus, it comes out of your monthly dues...

I think the bag stations are great. They really help keep our neighborhood (relatively) clean. How much worse would it be if we didn't have these?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for them as well. I just wanted to make a point that they might 'seem' to be free, but ultimately, we're all paying for them ;)

We have two dogs, both medium size (40 to 50 pounds). Our dogs go on four walks a day. They poop and pee on every walk. It irritates us when we see another dog's poop on the sidewalk and lawns.

Even thought we do not pass any poop receptacles on our walks, as responsible dog owners, we carry poop bags with us on every walk. We even purchase the poop bags that have Arm & Hammer Baking Soda in them so it absorbs a lot of the odor and our trash bin. This reduces the bad "smell" to our trash bin. We also give our dogs a product from Great Life called "enZYMes Pro plus." It comes in a power form and a chewable tablet form. We give our dogs one chewable tablet with each meal. This reduces the nitrogen is their urine and therefore preventing the urine from killing our lawn. My dogs have been urinating on our front lawn for 2 years and there is not one "pee" spot.

With all of the poop receptacles stationed around the public path areas, the poop mitts provided through the HOA, other scent reducing poop bags, and chewable tablets to reduce "pee" marks, there is no reason why all dog owners can not clean up after their dogs and prevent damage to a neighbor's lawn. To me…it is just plan laziness.

I know they aren't free also. They are just a nice thing for our community, and I think they are worth the money collectively since they do seem to help.

TOTALLY agree. I also believe it's a good 'differentiating factor' between our community and others around us. If I were a prospective buyer, seeing these would give me the sense that 'this community cares about their space'...

I agree 100% that the poop bags being readily available in this community makes a HUGE difference and am grateful that our HOA $$ are put to good use in this instance. Thank you to the responsible doggie parents for using them or other bags. To the irresponsible doggie parents...shame on you! :eww:

If I were a prospective buyer, I would look at the upkeep of the common areas - just take a look at the corner of Clairborne and Park Glen - there is a tremendous amount of trash scattered around the area. As a resident, on many occassions I have walked around my neighborhood picking up trash, filling up numerous gargbage bags. People need to pick up after themselves, more than just dog poop.
