I totally agree with you too! It's really not that hard to do.

Saw this happen on Sunday from my deck.

A young couple with an infant and dog are walking along the path, the dog stops and takes care of business within 10 feet of a baggie dispenser and trash can.

The couple "pretend" not to notice, appear to be fiddling with the backpack/carrier and keep walking.

It is pure laziness. Would you look the other way or pretend your baby did not poop in its diaper? :shakehead: Seriously....simple responsibility and common courtesy sure go a long way...or are they things of a time forgotten?

I wonder if they will get it when their infant starts to toddle around and steps in some dog poop that someone didn't clean up. We can hope they become more responsible, right?

RANT!! I have a dog, and I NEVER let him poop or pee in someone else's yard (only on the little part between the sidewalk and street, if he can't hold it, or on common ground). Today, after school, someone let their large dog walk between my house and my neighbor's house quite far back and poop in our yard (we were watching her from our window). She picked it up, but it was totally uncalled for. I don't even let my own dog poop in my side yard. You don't have to let your dog wander around wherever he/she wants to...keep a tight leash and only allow them to go where you they should go (meaning NOT IN SOMEONE ELSE's YARD, even if you pick it up...there is still residue left behind).

I am so furious:mad:. Rant over.

I have the fortunate experience of living in an end unit and it appears that my neighbors think my slightly larger yard is an acceptable "curbing" area. Part of my Saturday morning routine is to collect all of the items that have been "lost" and "found" in my yard and place them by the mailbox pedestal. Much to my surprise, the mailman has been complaining to the HOA, a poop bag dispenser has been erected in the yard, and the poop frequency hasn't dropped at all. What's a good neighbor to do? My beef isn't with the mailman. Guess I'll place the items I find on the sidewalk. Anyone want to loan me a nice camera/DVR set up so that I can ensure the rightful owners get their belongings back?

Well if the problem persists, the mail may no longer get delivered to those boxes.
Maybe they can send their dogs down to the Post Office to ger it.....

Diesel3333, while I understand your frustration, moving the 'poop' to the mailboxes isn't the solution. As you have noticed, all you're doing is annoying the mailman and not resolving the issue. A 'good neighbor', as you are claiming you are, doesn't put dog poop around the mailboxes that your neighbors need to access on a daily basis. What you think is the 'correct solution' is in fact causing problems for the mail carriers as well as your other neighbors who probably have nothing to do about your issue.

As was stated before, the mail carrier has complained multiple times to the HOA about the situation. At this point, if the issue of poop being put around the mailboxes isn't resolved, the USPS would have the right to cease mail delivery until the problem is resolved. I seriously doubt that inconveniencing your neighbors in this way is the solution. Please consider the consequences of your actions and pursue a different solution. Moving poop to the mailboxes is NOT the answer...

    Just my 2 cents...

Thank you for outing yourself as the person responsible for putting the mail delivery of about 30 homes at risk. I understand your frustration with inconsiderate dog owners, but making everyone else suffer? I think it is very unlikely that the culprit even uses one of those mailboxes so you are just "paying it forward" to innocent bystanders in a very negative way.

While I respect and value the opinions of my peers, the idea of "paying it forward" was not the intent. We all struggle with inconsiderate people in our lives but most of us ignore the plight of others until the struggle directly affects us. I am open to suggestions as to the best way to handle what I assume to be feces left in the grassy area that I maintain. I gather that my 'lost and found' approach hasn't been well received and am open to suggestions. We all need to be neighborly and ideally get along and this is certainly what I prefer. My intent hasn't been, and won't be, to sneakily handle the situation. I saw the sign erected at the mailboxes and thought it would be best to try to address the issue with the HOA so I called them. I didn't call to complain and even said as much (no one likes a complainer), but rather to discuss the issue. Rather than provide me with any meaningful suggestions I was immediately met with letter that if I'm caught placing any items I find in my yard by the mailboxes I'll get a $50 fine. I would like to do the right thing so my request for suggestions is sincere. I'm told that there are 36 poop-bag locations in our community so the concept of letting one's pets handle their business in other's yards is little more than an indication of laziness and complete disrespect for others. I won't put the items I find in the grass by the mailboxes anymore (rain, sleet, snow, hail...but not feces) but assuming the issue persists, I'd like some ideas.

By the way, I always have a fridge full of beer, am not unapproachable, and would love to meet my neighbors. Poop-talk is only fun for 9 year olds so hopefully we can agree not to let that topic monopolize the conversation.

At some point, I think most of us have had to deal with a dog going in our yard issue. A couple of years ago, we had trouble with a culprit. I wasn’t happy about it, but I certainly didn’t try to make it everyone else’s problem. Instead, I went on line and looked for suggestions. Here are some that you might give a try: Dogs hate citrus. You can find citrus spray (google it) and other non-toxic products to spray in the area. Red pepper is also great to use. A sign also might help. If you really want to get James Bond about it, you can set up a cheap surveillance system or even have a fake one as a deterrent.

Did you ever think the culprit might be someone non-malicious who is just clueless? I know. Seems far-fetched. Let me tell you why we don’t have the doggie issue any longer. One day I was exiting my house through my garage. As the door opened, I saw a small dog who had just relieved himself one my yard and a 11-12 year old girl who was walking him – busted! I didn’t even have time to process what I was seeing before the girl looked at me in horror and ran off with the dog. We have had no dog issues since that day. I’ve never seen them since. My point is this, don’t assume that if you place a sign or even camera notice that the culprit will even realize (or care) – especially if it’s a kid.

As a final note – I’m glad the nonsense of placing poop by our mailboxes is over. I don’t appreciate my mail delivery being put at risk and I also was not happy about not being able to take my daughter with me to get the mail (an activity she enjoys) b/c of area being surrounded by poo. You should probably be thanking the HOA for just giving you a warning rather than fining you outright. I saw our landscaper make a special stop to clean up that mess earlier this week and I’m sure we paid them to clean it. Something I’m sure in hindsight you realize. I wish you the best of luck in dealing with the culprit.

You all need to get out of your cushy little world and forget about the freakin dog poop... My God!

TopCoachGifts... I take that is an open invitation then for everyone to come and defecate in your yard?

Yeah, thanks for being considerate of others...

I expected that kind of response from you. You keep talking about your poor yard having doggie poopy in it. Go on...read your comic books and eat your twizzlers while you watch the Brady Bunch...I'll take care of keeping you informed of world events

I couldn't agree more. Must be nice to have the time to worry about dog poop.

If I'm not mistaken, the name of this forum is "Broadlands Community Issues." Of course world events are more important than dog feces, but does that mean we are not allowed to write comments about the Broadlands lifeguards, the Safeway gas discount, ongoing construction in the area, and stop signs and speed bumps in the Southern Walk Center, simply because they are not more important than world events?

Nice Nadir...All these issues are "community worthy". So go ahead and "spin" what my point was about Dog Poop. You also have completely missed the boat on my point.

    Let me see.....Safeway discount...Dog poo.....Safeway discount...Dog poo......Oh, yeh, I see the connection!

    Oh brother, my brain hurts...

In their defense, it does say Broadlands-specific.
