Has anyone had or know anyone close that has had a spinal disc fusion surgery? A specialist I saw last week said this is what I would eventually need to help my issue and I've heard mixed reviews from others as to the recovery and how successful it was. Would love more feedback if you have some.

    Thanks

I had fusion with a donor bone graft done 3 months ago.

Check out Virginia Spine Institute, at least for a second opinion. It helped me - i couldnt walk upright without extreme pain before the surgery. Now I can. It isnt a fix-all, I am still having leg pain/numbness, might take a year or so for that to ease. But I am way better than I was.

I have 2 friends who had disc issues in their necks (not sure exactly what) and they both saw Dr. Hope. One friend is fully recovered, no issues. The other friend is still recovering from surgery a few weeks ago. Hope this helps!

I did it, Dr. Hope is the best. I was very scared and he told me, "Look, this is like making a peanut butter and jelly sammich!" He's the best, and you'll feel better!

Yep - Dr. Hope rocks... turns out he was mentored by the phenomenal neurosurgeon who worked on my lumbar spine when I was 20…

Fantastic surgeon and wonderful human being.

Prior to my spinal fusion, I couldn't stand or walk for more than five minutes without a LOT of leg pain and significant lower back pain AND the pain didn't subside much even when sitting or lying down. Dr. Sandhu performed spinal fusion as well as a laminectomy on my L4-L5 vertebrae at Georgetown hospital in February 2007. I awoke from the surgery with NO pain in my leg and have not had any leg pain since. I started walking distances in mid-May of that year and was aerobic walking about three miles a day by the end of June. I golf and have been on roller-coasters and wave runners since then with no adverse effects. Please PM me if you'd like more details or if you'd like to talk to me in person. I know I may be one of the luckier ones, but I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat if the symptoms reappeared. I wish I hadn't waited 12 years to have it done in the first place; it made a world of difference!

I have a different opinion of Dr. Hope. It would serve you well to look into him closer, then decide.
