We are looking to take a quick mid-week trip once the kids get out of school for a night, or maybe two. My boys are 7 and 8 and we had fun at Busch Gardens. We've never been to either Hershey Park or Kings Dominion. If you've been to both, could you compare and contrast for me? It seems as though the admission prices are similar and the drive would be about the same. Is one much nicer than the other? Would one be much more crowded on a Monday or Tuesday in late June? I realize Kings Dominion is in the middle of nowhere, but that's ok. We're really going to experience the park and the water park, and if we end up going to Hershey, that's all we'd do up there too.

Please help me decide which would be a better fit for us. Thanks!

I find Hershey has more things to do than just the rides. If you're all about the rides, go to KD. If you want something a little different (and the chance to buy some old school chocolate candy) go to Hershey.

We're planning a day at HersheyPark in early July. If you go before that, CheesePhoto, let me know what you thought. I'm not a roller coaster person, but our 30-something kids are, so I'm interested in what else to do. (Other than feed my chocolate addiction)

I've been to both and I prefer Hershey Park. One nice thing they do is to have kiddie rides, medium rides, and thrill rides in each "zone". The idea being if your party has a mix, everyone can find something they like in each zone.

They also have some great old-time rides from the days when the park was new.

In previous years they've had a Park Preview plan. This plan lets you enter the park for a day and the previous evening, for the price of a single day. For example, show up on Tuesday after 5 (or is it 7?) PM, pay for parking and pay for admission, then re-use those same passes on Wednesday. It's a great deal. Plus in the mornings the pre-paid admission lines are shorter than the lines for buying admission, so you get in faster!

Just don't get a hotel in Hershey, they're very pricey. Stay 10-20 miles away (20-30 minutes driving time). It costs a lot less and the availability is better.

Outside the park is the Hershey tour. You pass that on the way from the parking lot to the park admissions line. The tour is fun and as usual drops you off in the gift store/restaurant. Our usual plan is to arrive at the park about 90 minutes prior to the Park Preview time, do the tour, eat at the restaurant, and then buy our admission tickets.

For that age, definitely Hershey Park. Lots of other things to do. I would pay the few extra bucks and stay in Hershey.
Hershey is an example of the wonderful things a corporation can do for a town. Now I know why the people there were so upset when they Hershey was looking to sell out a few years ago.

The trolley tour of Hershey is pretty good. Leaves from the Chocolate World.

I have a coupon for $14 off per admission in May or $12 off admission in June (up to 4 people).
If you want it, let me know.

Also in Hershey is Hershey Gardens, which is very nice. The gardens include a butterfly house that is nice. Great photo op place for photographers...
