We just got our home's radon test back and it was just over 9 !!!! (Should not be over 2.5 - 4.)

Would greatly appreciate any recommendations for radon mitigation contractors in the area, and any feedback on working to reduce the radon in your home if you've dealt with this.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Can you please let me know who did your radon test? I am planning to do it for my home.

    TIA

We had Jerry from On Solid Ground do our radon test. We would definitely recommend him.

We decided on RTI to do our radon fix. Their price was $50 less than the other recommended company on this thread, and they also test for radon. I need our granite counter-tops tested so it made sense for us to just have a company come out and do the fix and test the additional item at the same time.

I'm curious - was there anything worth worrying about with the counter-top readings?

I spoke to a professional at Home Depot about the radon & granite counter tops. He said that if the counter tops have been sealed correctly, there should be no problem with radon. Home Depot sells a $10 kit that you can use to re-seal your own counter tops if needed.

The radon testing company is booked until July 6 at which time they will test my counter tops. I will update here afterwards.

We just moved in and had the same problem. We used Geo Environmental out of Reston 703-620-0745. Pete and John had the system installed in just a few hours. If you have a passive system already installed, and from what I hear, most of Broadlands did, it will cost $650, if not it is $850.00.

Everything I've read about it indicates sealing does nothing to prevent radon exposure - it's radiation.

Just wanted to update.... we had our radon remediation done. We also had our granite kitchen counter-tops tested for radon. A several day test (the tester on the counter-tops was covered with a bucket to ensure that drafts would not alter the reading) for both. Both test results were under 1 picocurie per liter! This is great news.

So there is no concern with the counter-tops, and the remediation system brought our radon level down from a 9 to < 1.
