I honestly think that texting while driving is the biggest problem we have on the roads today. IMO, it should be considered up there with a DWI as far a punishment is concerned if caught.

I know this comes up periodically, but why not install speed bumps? Especially on the hilly parts of Glebe View and Vestals Gap. Maybe Chicacoan and Demot as well. They have some that are made of rubber so you could remove them before thr first snow if you're worried about the snow plows

Biggest reason of all - they are all VDOT roads so we can not just add what we want to them. Any changes even a sign must be approved by them as well as the Loudoun BOS and Loudoun's Emergency Response personnel.
In many conversations over the years emergency response will not approve it as it slows down their response time. With all the residential units up Glebe View, etc it is not something that makes a lot of sense.
80% of the speeders are the people who live there - they need to make it a priority to slow down.

I'd like to add a rant here.....Last night on Claiborne and Croson, some jerk sped RIGHT through the stop sign making a left onto Claiborne into the townhouse/single family neighborhood from Croson (Was heading west on Croson towards Belmont Ridge before making a left into his neighborhood)....

I was just floored that he NEVER stopped at the stop sign for anyone...just proceed right through the intersection at a high speed...I honked my horn at him as to say "Hey...didn't you even see the Stop Sign???" What a dangerous move that he made...could have hit someone.

People in these parts don't pay much attention to the traffic laws around here because they know there is a VERY little chance of getting caught breaking the laws around here.

Easily said than done when it happens in the dark (evening) and I don't make a point of going after people to get their license plate numbers...That guy was going at a very high rate of speed that I couldn't even get the number. Sucks when its in the evening and hard to see the license plates!

Cap - you don't need the license plate, just a general description of the car/time/location. Use the form/link I provided to submit your traffic concerns. If the Sheriff's office receives multiple complaints from a specific area, they will assign patrol/traffic units.

If you and others don't complete the form, how do you expect the Sheriff's department to increase patrols in our neighborhood to keep speeders in check? You need to be part of the solution, or you can just continue complaining about. Just saying

It takes 2 minutes (about the same time to write a response on this thread)...

Does reporting also work for those that ride bikes? I almost hit a overweight male in a white shirt this morning around 7:15 when he blew through the intersection at Clairborne and Wynridge (he was heading down clairborne towards the pool). He never slowed down!

I saw there was no cars coming and was waiting for another rider (female in pink) who made a left from Clairborne onto Ridgeway. This guy was flying and never even attempted to slow. He was seconds from enjoying his last ride!:angryfire:

A couple of weeks back, a large group of bicyclists, maybe 26 + riders came down Waxpool and turned on to Claiborne. They blew through a red light, non-stop. One car couldn't get around a bike because the rider kept swerving back and forth in the lane, so the car driver honked his horn to get his attention. The bicyclist got upset and followed the car to its stop and proceeded to lecture him about safety. :screwy:

I don't think they're exempt from obeying the road rules and should be reported.

Bikes are subject to the same traffic laws as the rest of us. I've never been woried that my daughtesr would be hit by a cyclist - I'm sure there are examples where it's happened but I just don't feel threatened when I see a guy run a stop sign, etc on a bike. I'm biased, I ride my bike to work in Tysons Corner from time to time. There is a quarter mile streth in Tysons that I just ride on the sidewalk (illegal) but the alternative is to exercise my rights in a car lane and pedal 17 mph followed by a pack of cars wishing they could go 40 mph. Then at the end of the day, after biking 22 miles home, when I get to the 4 way stop by Golds gym I will "scrootch" along the right side of the road and cut in front of a line of 20 cars instead of waiting 10 minutes in the exhaust fumes. Then I double up and cross the interesection along side a car when it's his turn. Seems to be in the best interest of everyone and common sense but I could be ticketed for it. If it ticks anyone off just tap the horn next time you see me doing it. No middle fingers please.

I guess my issue is if I hit that cyclist I'm automaticially the bad guy and its my word verses him that he ran the stop sign. It wasn't like he slowed down and made sure the coast was clear...he saw me pull up to the stop sign way before he was even close to the intersection and decided it was easier for me to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting him than it would be for him to unclip and stop or at least slow until I went.......

In this neighborhood, it's a pretty safe bet that neither the motorist nor the cyclist stopped. As my kids get older I guess I'll eventually stop caring and just get out the popcorn and watch as folks take each other out.

By the way, not sure where in Tysons you bike, but it is surprisingly legal to ride your bike on the sidewalk in many places in Virginia. Virginia allows it unless a local ordinance says otherwise or shopping center. Vienna allows it if traveling by road is unsafe (which near tysons it would be). Not sure if Mclean has any local ordinance, but I've never heard about one. You must yield to pedestrians when on a sidewalk.
