I live in Overland Park and have for almost 8 years. I am so sick of fireworks being shot off at many times during the year and all through the summer. I love the 4th of July but I do NOT love illegal fireworks and bottle rockets being shot off in a very densely populated area without regard to the many many of us that have small children in bed. Frankly I don't want my house hit with one of those fireworks and go up in flames. Is it possible to publish something in the newsletter about this ongoing issue? My next step is call the non emergency number. Have some respect for your neighbors!!

Actually, I find that a little annoying also. I understand for the days surrounding the 4th, but when people are still shooting them off weeks later it's annoying. I used to be really bothered by it when I had a small child and was worried about the noise waking her up but lived with it because I knew I had no control over the situation. Now it just bothers me when people do it after 10pm and on, say, July 25.

Last year I had bought a regular (Costco/Sams) legal set and was setting them off at 8:30 on the 4th and had a neighbor come say they were loud and his kid was trying to sleep. Our kid is the same age (they were 4 at the time).

I didn't feel like having an argument so we cut off July 4th early which sucked. He went down a few houses to others that were doing the same thing and the impression I got was that they told him to get lost and they finished out what they had.

If it happens again this year I'll probably finish mine out too.

The problem is, it's not just around the 4th (or weeks later). It's all year long! I'll be out back with my dog, who is terrified of them, when for no reason, fireworks are being set off. He goes into a complete panic and is terrified the rest of the night. It's gets a little annoying. I'll put up with it during the 4th and beyond for a while, but good grief, all year long?!

Legal on the 4th?? How un-patriotic is your neighbor?? I'd told him to pound sand too.
