I took my kids to DD tonight for soft serve ice cream. The ice cream tasted disgusting and freezer burned, we threw it away in the store. I approached the staff and explained there was something wrong with the ice cream and was quickly assured "its fine" by the employee who never moved from his seat. Lord knows when the last time was the machine was properly cleaned but it is no longer a problem for me, my family will never be returning.

Yuck! Definitely go the dd website and file a complaint! The regional manager contacted me directly and seemed to take things fairly seriously. Things were better for a little while at least.

Wow! The horror stories from this place. I haven't been in well over a year and have no reason to believe they are any better now.

As a New Englander who knows what a "good" Dunkin Donuts is supposed to be, I can tell you that I don't even cosnider the Broadlands DD to be a DD -- it is that bad, in every respect. An embarassment to the chain.

I totally agree! Go to a DD in the Boston suburbs and it's amazing what the difference is...

One doesn't even after go to the suburbs of Boston. DDs are everywhere, especially downtown. I'd bet there maybe more DDs than Starbucks in Boston.

They suffer from what so many food/retail establishments suffer from around here. Lack of professional management and solid, experienced, hard working employees.

That's a shame. Maybe, one day, after the metro comes, we can have a gelato establishment here like Pitango (made from organic milk, it comes in all natural flavors like chocolate hazelnut, cardamom, bourbon vanilla, and rhubarb). The closest Pitango is in Reston: http://www.pitangogelato.com/index.php

I'd go so far as to say that they outnumber SB by 2-1 in the city, and 10-1 in the burbs. When I give someone directions up there there is always at least one "take a left/right at the Dunkin Donuts" -- and no matter where I'm giving directions to!

Dunkin Donuts has terrible management. My wife and I got cussed out by the manager at the Dunkin Donuts in Sterling. Small kids were there too. Worse customer service I have ever experienced.

We contacted corporate and the regional manager. They gave us a $10 gift card. Which shows they don't really care about the customers. We used the gift card when Ashburn first opened and food and service was terrible.

As a native of CT and a long time resident of Greater Boston, I offered to buy this store. No response.

    Good question!

We ordered 2 Reese's ice creams and they come with peanut butter. The employee made them with caramel instead. We didn't notice this until leaving and came right back to get them corrected. He said they didn't have any peanut butter and offered us 2 scoops of ice cream instead. What we originally ordered was about $8 and he offered us a $3 replacement.

The employee had a nasty attitude the entire time. When we declined the replacement and asked for a refund, he went and whispered to the manager for a minute about us. Manager is nasty and mad that we want a refund and makes us wait 5 minutes behind other customers for our money. So we were in the store 10 minutes already. I spoke up sternly to manager asking for my money, and that is when he lost it. He repeatedly said "expletive you!" in front of about 4 kids. My wife came to my defense and raised her voice at him never once using profanity.

He throws us our money back, while still making smart comments as we were leaving the store. After heading back to our car we saw other customers leaving, and my wife appoligized to those families for raising her voice in store. The family replied it wasn't our fault.

So, for what it's worth, the new DD in Ashburn Village Shopping Center (up front in the old Blockbuster space) is AMAZING! The employees are really nice (one even offered to help me to the car with my order since I had two kids in tow!) and the donuts were super fresh! I rarely go to any donut or pastry shop, but I will now go out of my way to patronize this new, local shop from time to time! :)

Someone on this forum mentioned this place was managed by the same place in Broadlands, but the management and stores are night and day. If it is true they are managed by the same person, then there needs to be a complete staff replacement in Broadlands. I refuse to spend any $$$ at the Broadlands place and will drive out of my way to Ashburn every time.

What a horrible ordeal! In the Broadlands, the manager, Theo, has always been kind and courteous when I've been in.

In general I've been pleased with Broadlands DD... I go in often for coffee, and I'm always treated well. I've noticed they rectified the donut situation a while ago, as they always seem to have stock. Theo was managing for a while, then I noticed he was replaced around the beginning of the year. It turns out he was moved to another store, but when the new management faltered, he was brought back. Looks like they saw a problem, and moved quickly to resolve it... Not sure why this place always gets bashed... If I'm by Ashburn Village, I'll stop by the new one, but no way I'd drive 5 miles for a cup of coffee I can get down the block.
