OK,,,, Just found a wasp nest hanging from the highest point of our roof line ! :eww:

it's in the front side and don't think we can reach the point with water hose... so,, since we are trying to save some money,, thinking there may be ways to tackle this ourselves??

any ideas and advices will be greatly appreciated..
Did some reasearch and found out that there are many places that will remove beehives ONLY if it's honeybees'... I'm pretty sure what we have is wasp's nest... sucks..

ladder, wait for dusk when bees are less active, spray with a can of wasp killer that can spray 20-30 feet, scurry down ladder SAFELY

If it's that far away I wouldn't worry about it. They'll be gone soon enough.

Can I really get away with that? I have a wasp nest by the front door - could I spray at night and just run in? I was trying to ignore it..........

Yes, my husband has done this a couple of times. The hornet/wasp spray is effective immediately. The wasps will not be able to fly once they are sprayed and they die quickly. Doing it as dusk is the best because they are the least active then. It doesn't have to be at night, but just as the sun has gone down and it's starting to get dark. You don't really have to run, just get down the ladder and away from the nest as quick as you can as the wasps will be trying to fly and falling out of the nest.

This is basically what the "professional" exterminators will do too.

This definitely works, however, be careful not to let the spray blow back on your skin..... wash your hands well...

Thanks, everyone (t8erman, mom8386, hokie'81) for the replies.

I couldn't get past T8erman's avatar (alongside his reply), so I'm thankful others commented, too.

If you knew T8erman, then the avatar would make sense.

Or you could do what my brother did years ago...take an old broom, light it on fire and ignite the wasp nest. Not only did he burn the nest and kill its inhabitants, he fried the shrub to a crisp and nearly lit the house on fire. It was quite entertaining, until the folks got home.

I have a hornet/wasp nest right outside of my window and was going to get one of those sprays from home depot but then remembered I use Superior Pest for pest control. I just called them and they are going to come out tomorrow to get rid of it. Do you use a pest company spray your house throughout the yr? If so, I'm sure they'll come out and take care of the problem for free.

Well, saying they'll take care of it for free isn't really accurate. You pay for it in a monthly or yearly plan don't you?
