I don't know if this has been addressed before, but I think the intersection (closest to Walgreen's and the Broadland's Family Practice) should either be a 3-way or 4-way stop. Currently, there are only stop signs east and west (which get ignored too often). As it stands, traffic coming from Wynridge and from the back of the shopping center have no stop signs.

As a driver at Domino's, I have had close calls several times a day. I always slow down in case the cross traffic is either not paying attention, doesn't know the stop sign situation or is just trying to beat me to Wynridge Dr. I think this can be avoided if there are additional signs placed or add "Cross traffic does not stop" signs below the two existing stop signs.

    Thank you for your time,
    Justin

    Justin-
Given that the shopping center is privately owned by Van Metre, contact them about this.

Thank you. I didn't know who to go to.

In the mean time, everyone please use caution.

Ty Hausch is the contact for Van Metre. I'm sure your manager or owner knows how to get in touch with their landlord.

I emailed Van Metre last night and got a response back from the property manager. He wanted to meet up to discuss the traffic concerns.

Please remind him also about the dangerous curve of approaching traffic if you are crossing or turning from the bank parking lot (facing Harris Teeters). I almost got creamed by a speeder coming up and around that curve.

    Justin-
I'm sure it's not you, but I am always extra cautious at the intersection ( and I have been at it hundreds of times because two of my kids work at Top Kick) because of the number of times the Domino's delivery cars come flying out from behind the building like a bat out of hell!

I'll talk to my crew about that. Unsafe driving isn't tolerated at our store. It portrays a bad image for us. If you can pm me descriptions of the cars who fly by, I'll give them a verbal warning. We urge our drivers to be "fast on your feet, not on the street".

    Update:

We met with the property manager today. He appeared to be on board and said that a third stop sign will be placed in about 30-60 days. It will be at the crosswalk between Walgreen's and Family Medicine. This will make the traffic entering from Wynridge the only direction that won't have a stop sign.

Also, a tree that was blocking the stop sign in front of Walgreen's was removed today before we met up.

Wow, that was a quick response from them! Now we just need to get people to actually stop at the signs ;)

Ty, how about some speed bumps between the Walgreen and McD's. That front stretch of drive is like a drag strip some days. What do you think you can do.

    Thank you

I was pleasantly surprised at how fast it was addressed. I'll send out an email to see what can be done about that dragstrip.

We'll look into speed bumps. I had not heard of this issue being raised before in the area between Walgreens and McDonald's, but we will certainly add them if it seems prudent to do so.

Oh, it's an issue all right. Especially since there is STILL no sidewalks along Wynridge which turns this stretch of parking lot into a pedestrian zone.

Agreed. Is it possible to broach the subject with VanMetre about putting in sidewalks along Wynridge by the shopping center? I would walk there more if there were sidewalks. It makes me uneasy to walk through the parking lot with so many cars backing up and such.

Van Metre has indicated that once the road is turned over to the state they would be working to install sidewalks along there. I have been complaining about the lack there of for a very long time, but unfortunately they indicated that the permitting required before the turn over was not being accepted. Will repose the question again as to timing.....

Pretty sure the road was turned over a while ago.

Spoke to Van Metre Rep. Plans are in the works with VDOT - they are looking to get some help from Shawn Williams office to help expedite/minimize the hold ups..
