I'm sorry, I should have dated the comments I quoted; they definitely were from long before the house was turned over to the HOA....

See if Clydes wants to buy it so they can move it to their Willow Creak location. They purchased and moved most of the structures that are their now so they must be pretty good at it. The community can still enjoy it their.

Donate it to Habitat For Humanity.

I like it but trust me it is a huge money pit!

Great article by Leesburg Today!... I enjoyed learning about this history and construction, but not about the people who seem to think bulldozing it is a good idea... but I'm glad it seems the majority want it to stay. Seems like a new quality metal roof would cost ~$15k ... plus fix up all the wood trim/porch like Cliff said... probably another 20k, if that. Fix the landscaping, etc. I hope it comes to fruition.

Perhaps there are enough skilled handymen in the community who could take on many of the improvements needed on a volunteer basis. Treat it like an old fashioned barn raising where the community comes out in force and makes a day (ok, many days) of it.

I really do hope that it's kept and used for something. It gives the community character - something that's sorely lacking in much of suburbia these days.

For what it's worth, I asked my 2nd grader what she thinks, and her response was "Mom, why do people think that they always have to just tear down the old things and make new ones that look all the same? They take down all the trees and all the nice old houses and then everything is ugly and all the other trees die and then the birds have nowhere to live and we'll all run out of oxygen. Old things can be nice, you just have to take care of them." So...today, the Stone House. Tomorrow, death of our species. I do think she has a point, though.

As a member of the Board, I would love to have a committee formed that would look into options for the house, etc. The committee should look at ALL options and be able to make recommendations to the Board, including how some of these ideas would be funded, etc.

Cliff, you've been VERY vocal about the house, both here and in the media. I would love to see you as part of such a committee and possibly chair it.

Would there be any interest from others to be part of such a committee? I would be looking for residents that are dedicated to working with us on this issue. That means attending regular committee meetings, research, etc. I would also want to have it composed of residents of differing opinions. Finally, the committee should be composed of as many residents as possible in order to get a fair sense of how the community as a whole feels about the issue.

Also, I personally think we should hold at least one 'Town Meeting' on the subject to get feedback from the community. I believe this could be a great opportunity for the Stone House committee to gather some input and ideas from other residents.

If you are seriously interested and ready to commit some time to such a committee, please contact me via PM or via email (available on this page http://www.broadlandshoa.org/node/31) and I'll get a list together and get things rolling. I would love to be able to report back at our next Board meeting that we have a committee made up of interested volunteers and that an initial 'meeting' has already been held.

Many of you have voiced your opinion here - now please consider taking a step forward and actually get involved in the process.

    Mr. Linux-

Sounds good, and I would be interested in joining a committee.
A suggested change: Have a community meeting before forming the committee.
It's okay to have people on it that oppose keeping the house, but I don't think that would be productive. They would simply oppose any efforts to save it and probably would not be willing to do any work the committee needs done researching possibilities.

I think the Board needs to reach a decision as to whether the house should be saved or not, then move forward with forming a committee.

I also think it is important that a few members of the HOA Board be part of the committee.

Please do not forget that any exterior modifications need to be brought before the Modifications Sub-Committee first. :devil2:

I was going past this sign on the trail across from the stone house this morning and thought it might be interesting to those who haven't seen it.

cool... I guess the last sentence is not to be taken too seriously as it seems like a good part of our HOA board seems to lean towards getting rid of it :( please don't, guys...

Sounds like it would probably cost too much, but I would love to see the "Nature Center" moved over there so that space could be rented out for parties and such. The Community center is just too small, and doesn't have any outdoor space.

I would also consider being part of the committee and will send you a PM with my contact information.

In the new development that Van Metre is building we will be getting a new community building - If memory serves correctly it was going to be designed with a larger room than exists at the community center.

I bet Rehabilitation / Renovation cost would exceed $100K by a wide margin.

Take down the house, but preserve the stone! Use the stone to build a retaining wall around the outside of a pavilion of poured concrete on the hill where the house stands now. Use the pavilion for various outdoor community events.

I would love to see it restored and used. I don't think it's an eyesore. I think it's charming.

A pavilion is an excellent idea! Where's the "Like" button?!
