I'm just wondering if just putting bagged dog waste in my garbage can is the right thing to do. Like, have I been rude to the garbage people? Is there another way to dispose of it.

I have a service that comes and picks up my yard twice a week. They leave it double bagged in the place where I told them to put it outside, mainly hidden from view. The morning of the trash collection I place it in my own trash can on top of my other trash. It doesn't seem to be an issue. So, as an idea, if you are concerned about it, you could put all of your little bags into one large (double bagged) bag, and then place it in the can once or twice a week.

The issue here isn't about the garbarge people, but I think you know that. Bottom line : if your dog craps in a common area or a yard other than your own, pick it up, seal it in a garbage bag and dispose of it in a community trash can or your own. Don't leave it in your neighbor's yard or dump it in your neighbor's trash can. Why is this even a discussion ?

I know that using someone else's can is rude but I was confused about this...

"we store our can outside and i don't even put my own dogs scooped poop in OUR trashcan unless i absolutely have to."

like what should be done with it?

I don't know what that means either - guess Redon would have to elaborate.

aaah. what i mean is- i prefer NOT to put poop bags in my own trashcan, sometimes we only put trash on the curb once a week, and it stinks! so- given how little i want my OWN can to have poop in it, i would never presume to open another person's trashcan and put poop in it.

Remember the good ole days when you could put the poop in a paper bag and leave it on a neighbors doorstep after setting it on fire?...

As the fortunate caretaker of two wonderful dogs, I urge others to be responsible about dog wast.

I also want to commend the use of mulch around the Mutt Mitt stations. Great idea.

Thanks - this was actually something that was brought forward by HLS and our new HOA General Manager Sarah Gerstein. The grass around the Mutt Mitt stations was taking quite a beating and looked awful so they suggested that we replace it with mulch and the Board of Directors agreed. It gives things a cleaner look and is easier and cheaper to maintain in the long run.

because this is northern virginia, where heaven forbid anyone even remotely inconveniences us. we rage at things like a neighbor's bagged dog poop in our own trash can, or a car asking to cut in traffic, or a parent bringing a snack that isn't organic to soccer practice. we do this because we are entitled to the best and only the best, with every primp and pamper available along the way. by the way, how dare you post so late in this discussion, forcing me to scroll and paginate to read. ugh!

Isn't what you're complaining about the exact same thing as dog owners feeling "entitled" to let their furry friends dump their little presents wherever they want? Heaven forbid somebody gets a dog and subsequently put the effort into taking good care of it and cleaning up properly after it.

yep. sorry if i wasn't clear...the trash can owner is inconvenienced by the bagged poop, the dog owner is inconvenienced by the lack of a trash can within 20ft of the dog's poop spot :) can't say the trash collector is inconvenienced at all though, as this is his chosen profession.

if everyone would be tolerant of everyone else's property, then this discussion would never happen. now that it did though, i find the intensity of the initial post rather comical. relax guys...surely we have more serious things to be riled up about.

I feel fortunate that my biggest problems in the neighborhood are so small. I'd never want to live in a place where poop wasn't considered a legitimate gripe. :)
