This gorgeous, healthy BIG fox was in my front yard yesterday around 4pm. As he heard Beemer (my JTR) bark furiously in my house he just stood there, looking at my house. He paced up and down a bit, watching the house, the stalked away.

Simply beautiful- but I wonder, if it got into my yard and my dog confronted it, could a 17 lb terrier kill a huge fox...?

Frankly, it depends on the dog, and his prey drive. JRTs were bred to hunt rodents, to go to ground and flush them out. JRTs can be pretty territorial, and normally do not back down from much. May want to contact LoCo and ask them what you can do, naturally, to discourage the fox from hanging around your yard. While JRTs are pretty fierce, I wouldnt want him to go up against a fox.

absolutely agree with you bellaru, JRTs have heart but this is a healthy creature! doubt there's much we can do, we live next to protected woods. the fox is in his territory as much as we're in ours, so I can't see chasing him off...

    Redon-

A 17lb JRT is fairly huge in his/her own right. IMO, your JRT would be hard pressed to kill that fox and would have plenty of battle wounds to show for the effort.

I have no idea how I would handle it, how I could even break it up...

depends on how vicious they are I guess... my inlaw's terrier just missed death after a run in with a critter that left her with a deep gash about 3+ inches long that almost slit her throat/jugular. Poor bella looked like she had been slashed with a dagger.

If it does ever happen, for your pup's safety, and your own - never physically get the middle of that. Loud noises as close up as you dare, or a water hose would be your best bet.
And, goes without saying, make sure your pup is up to date on all his shots.

thasnks BelleRu- you are the second person to give me the waterhose advice. The Dog is up to date on his shots. I just hope I never have to worry about it, but I'll be ready if it happens.

    cool video ktdid!
