First mattress delivered had the plastic cover opened and taped up again and the actual mattress was dirty. I had them return it, and they delivered another one.

Second mattress was sealed but not correctly manufactured, the top did not line up with the box frame at one side only. Box frame also had a dent in it.

At this point the owner decided to cut his losses and provided a refund.

    This was a $1000+ Simmons.

Anyone had a good experience with another brand or particular store?

    Thanks in advance, Mike

I have had great luck buying mattresses from Bloomingdales. Have purchased from them twice, very happy. Try out the Kluft brand. Worth every penny.

I had a great experience a year or so ago at mattress place in Ashburn Village and was disappointed to see it was gone when shopping for a new mattress 2 months ago.

I went around to several of the places in the strip malls in the area and felt like I was getting ripped off. At more than one place, I agreed to a price only to be told the delivery charge would be $75 or $100. That is not the going rate for mattress delivery.

I gave up and bought a set at Sears. Everything was straight forward and less of a hassle.

I've purchased two mattress sets from Macy's (different Macy's in different states a few years apart.) Always happy with purchase, delivery and quality.

Costco is always my first place to look. We've gotten queens and twins from there before.

When we bought our mattress from a local store, box spring that came with that is too high, not feeling comfortable.

Can we buy just low profile box spring?

Over on the Cafe Freecycle Loudoun Yahoo group there are a few people that posted positive feedback for Baer Mattress in Leesburg. This business is Family Owned. Maybe with Small Business Sat on Nv 24 they will have good deals. I have twins from Mattress Discounters (the store that was in the Broadlands Shopping Center), and a queen sleep number bed, so I can't speak to Baer.

Sleepys in Leesburg (near Wegmans) is great, solid range, good advice, and super prompt delivery.

    Update:

Bed #1 and #2 were a bust, as detailed.

Tried Sleepy's in Leesburg by the Wegmans. Maybe it was just us, but we did not like the sales approach there and left. The Simmons on the floor there had not aged well in my opinion. There was no doubt that our decision to return bed #2 was the correct one.

We also tried Belfort, which had Stearns and Foster. So does Costco, though.

Bed #3: Tried Costco online. Ended up buying and returning a Stearns and Foster, which (although owned by Sealy these days) really felt like a well constructed bed. We could not get used to the pillowtop, I guess we are getting old fashioned.

The Uhaul owner on Cascades a few blocks from the Costco must have had others do the same thing over the years, since he asked us if we were returning a bed when we asked to rent a van. He was very helpful to have taken the trouble to have asked, since a van as it turned out does not have a wide enough door opening for a mattress.

Bed #4: another bed from Costco online, which we are keeping. Delivery was quick and professional.

    Thanks for the other suggestions.

Anyone have thoughts on the Temperpedic? I have a very damaged back, and a friend of mine, who also has disc issues, told me he hasn't needed a chiropractic adjustment in the three years since he purchased his Temperpedic.

I know they offer the "try at home for 30 days" promotion, but what a hassle, especially with a king bed. There seems to be a vast difference between the current models. You practically need a home equity loan to purchase the mac-daddy, top of the line best seller.

    But is it worth it....

My parents purchased one because my mother was very sick from Chemo and spent a lot of time in bed. And while they raved about the comfort, they eventually returned it after several weeks because the off-gassing was more than they both could tolerate. Maybe it depends on which one you buy.

I found this website which reviews different types of foam mattresses.

Can you tell me which one you ended up getting from Costco? I'm thinking of ordering one but their reviews are all over the place.

We also have a sleep number bed we bought at Dulles Town Center and love it.

The last regular mattress/box spring set we bought was from the mattress store that used to be in Broadlands.
