Water Leaked into Basement Ceiling

Has anyone had the experience of seeing water stains on basement ceiling?

Some time after the storms, I noticed that there were several sizable water stains on my basement ceiling. Initially I thought the water was seeping in from the ground outside, because they were all near the same exterior wall, but then I realized the basement ceiling is higher than the grading outside.

Now I am thinking it might be indoor piping or roof above. The stains are now dry to the touch, so whatever leaked is not actively leaking (so I suspect maybe sump pump pipes or irrigation pipes since they aren't being used now). One of the stains is directly below a gas fireplace.

Whom should I call to check out the problem, a plumber, a home inspector, a roofer? I'd appreciate some advice.

A furnace pipe can most certainly cause a leak to settle down into your basement on the ceiling below but will not show any signs of damage anywhere on the levels above because the water is traveling inside the interior walls. Steven

    Steven,

Thank you for that tip. Is this something you might be able to take a look and have your crew fix?

    I'll leave you an e-mail.
