My child has been going to a local church-based preschool but I'd like to look into something different for the 2013-14 school year. This is mainly to find a student:teacher ratio of less than 18:2 and a price less than $500/month for ~3 days/week. I'd also like a preschool that isn't so highly focused on worksheets (which I do enough of at home). Is all this possible or am I dreaming? :screwy:
If you've had (good or bad) experience with a church-based, home-based or center-based preschool meeting my hopes (and possibly only dreams), I'd love to hear about it. Feel free to send me a PM. Thanks!

Just to let you know the Virginia State Licensing ratios are 18:1 (for 5 year olds and above), even in the after care public school (CASA) programs. For 3 and 4 year olds the ratio is 10:1. All I know is that the preschools/child cares run the state ratios. I am pretty sure that the half day preschools run the ratios too, but I could be wrong. I have worked and currently work in child care; most child cares do not allow worksheets in the classroom.

The moms club of Ashburn is sponsoring a preschool forum sometime this month. That is a great way to find out about tons of options in the area. I am not sure of the date or location but someone in one of the clubs should know.

Some preschool classes do have smaller ratios, and that is what I am looking for. My older child had a 1:8 last year. A lot of it has to do with the class time I choose, so I'll keep that in mind.

I've noticed that some of the preschools are moving up their registration dates this year. Two I looked at online have already started their registration for the 2013-14 year, so I'm feeling a little stressed to get this figured out ASAP!

My son attended Little Sprouts.....we loved Karlene Baker.

We had friends attend Growing Minds and My Favorite Place......they were both well thought of as well.

I have heard great things about Winnie Pooh......did not know anyone personally though.

And we had friends attend Montessori of Belmont Green....loved them but not cheap.

I have also heard great things about the preschools run by the high schools. My understand is that the Briar Woods one is very good (friends attending) and one year for twins (three days a week) is cheaper than twins at Open Arms for one month. Can't beat those prices. I know Stone Bridge and Broad Run both run similar programs so you might want to give the schools a call tomorrow.

    Hope this helps.

Great options, thanks for posting! And thanks, Villager, for the info on the MOMS club preschool forum. (although I wish it were sooner ... I can't believe registration has already started for some schools!)
