Just curious if any of the grades allow for their child to eat snack in the Elementary schools!? Very frustrated right now... My child is in full day kindergarten and starting Tuesday they will not have snack anymore.

Hillside allows kids to bring in a easy to eat snack. My kids have brought goldfish and granola bars. They don't want anything messy like yogurt or applesauce.

Depends on the class at Hillside. Some teachers and grades yes, some no. Seems to be up to the teacher, not the school.

I thought it was a teacher decision too...do you think it would be worth trying to negotiate with the teacher? She has offered to allow him to go to the clinic to "snack," but I think he might use that to his advantage; plus I dont want him singled out.

At Mill Run, my experience is it depends on when their lunch hour is, maybe even who the teacher is. The reason we're usually given is because the kids' lunch is so late ie 12:30 or early i.e. 10:30.

Allergies in the classroom can be a factor as well.

Snack time in kindergarten can take up to 20-30 minutes, by the time you line the kids up and take them down to the cafeteria and they all go through the line to get their snack, sit, eat and go back to the classroom. With only a half, day, this takes a lot of time out of the instructional day.

They do not leave their classroom to eat snack...they eat while they work...tops 15 minutes because the teacher won't allow more time; which is okay because they at least get something.

They don't have snack for kindergarten at Hillside anymore. I believe this is the case at a lot of the schools this year.

This is true for Mill Run. Not sure about the other schools. One of my children has snack at 9:30ish because their lunch isn't until after noon. My other child does not have snack, but lunch is at 11:30.

I think it's teacher related too. My 4th grader can have a snack but my 2nd grader cannot.
