"One question kept coming up between Loudoun and Prince William school board members at a recent statewide meeting: What are you guys going to do about TJ?

After hearing that neighboring school systems could be asked to contribute large sums for a $90 million renovation to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology — the elite Fairfax County public magnet school — some school leaders in Loudoun and Prince William counties and Falls Church are questioning whether it still makes sense to export top students there."

I think it's a legit request.. and certainly paying a portion of a renovation is still cheaper than building your own school. So I find the money argument kind of stupid. Ironic... stupidity over a magnet school..

What I think is more legit question for the county is.. why do we look to export kids all the way to alexandria vs. having something closer?

    Oh yeah.. money :)

The LCPS school board is interested in the idea of expanding our science and math academy.

Is the LCPS science and math academy on par with TJ? I have a 4th grader who I'm expecting to be borderline on going to TJ for hs.

Loudoun is behind Fairfax County in so many areas, i.e. half-day kindergarten. :angryfire:

I grew up in FCPS, and I'm happy to hear this.

What happened to the Gulen Center project/charter for Math & IT? I may have gotten the name wrong.

It works out to be about $49,000 per Loudoun student. I think one of the big arguments isn't the paying our percent, it's how expensive the renovation is going to cost total. $90 million dollars to renovate a school seems a bit high...
