We need a GOOD Mexican place! Maybe this will be it. Some are okay or fine, but a really good one would be awesome.

Los Toltecos is OK at best.
El Sol Azteca isn't bad but I've never had good service there.
Don Pablos isn't Mexican, I don't know what it is.
Anitas is New Mexico Style, it's all covered in red or green.

Trust me, the real deal is coming, Plaza Azteca is nails. :2thumbs:

    Re: El Sol Azteca

I finally made it there and would have to rate it a "Meh....." The food was okay, but nothing special to bring me back over some other mexican place. Service was good, prices were in the expected range.

If I stumble on some of the coupons from the weekly papers I'd probably go back, but not a place I can get excited about........

I used to frequent the Plaza Azteca in Newport News when I lived there many years ago. It was our favorite Mexican restaurant and has since really branched out. I'm hoping it's as good as I remember! I called and they said they'll be open in about a month and this was last week.

Just called Plaza Azteca and the fellow who answered said they might be open in 4 weeks. Wonder what's taking time.

Yes, they are open. Saw people walking in last Saturday when I visited Sweetwater.

Yup... Went for dinner a week or so ago. Margaritas were pretty good. I'm a fajita fan, and sadly I cannot recommend the steak fajitas. The beef was not really seasoned/marinated and it was more like stir fry beef than steak. It was as if they sautéed it with the onions/peppers instead of grilling and then slicing. No lettuce or pico, but probably could have asked for it. Service was good, attentive. A bit noisy. Nice bar area, not overrun with big screens. Refritos tasty, with a generous amount of melted cheese.

We may try again, though I'll move to enchiladas.
