    Greenway Toll Rate Investigation

(Per Delegate Ramadan’s Office) “On November 14th, 2012, Toll Road Investors Partnership II, L.P. (TRIP II), owners of the Dulles Greenway, requested permission to institute an increase in the tolls along the Greenway. Delegate Ramadan filed an official complaint with the State Corporation Commission (SCC) on December 7th, 2012, requesting that the increase be denied and that the toll rates on the Dulles Greenway be investigated to ensure compliance with the Code of Virginia.”

“On January 16th, in spite of the request and arguments presented by Delegate Ramadan, the SCC issued an order allowing TRIP II to increase the toll rates. In response, Delegate Ramadan submitted a new request that the toll structure be investigated. January 30th, in response to Delegate Ramadan’s request, the SCC issued an order initiating an investigation into the current rate structure and rate levels charged by TRIP II.”

The SCC has set several hearing dates for public comments:

    - April 9th in Purcellville at the Loudoun Valley High School (340 North Maple Avenue) at 4pm & 7pm.
    - June 6th in Sterling at the Park View High School (400 W. Laurel Avenue) at 4pm and 7pm.
    - July 18th in Richmond at the SCC (1300 East Main Street) at 10am.

Delegate Ramadan is requesting your help. If you can answer the following question, please consider signing the related petition. DO YOU ROUTINELY AVOID USING THE GREENWAY BECAUSE OF THE HIGH TOLLS?

PETITION: www.LowerGreenwayTolls.com and consider attending the June 6th public hearing to voice your concerns. This may be your only opportunity for years to come!

Received the following from Scott Yorks office this morning. Thoughts I would refresh the thread:

    Dulles Greenway Petition
    Lower Greenway Tolls!
    Dear Friends,

Over the years many of you have expressed frustration with the increasing toll rates on the Dulles Greenway. Currently, the SCC is conducting an investigation into the increased tolls as a result of a complaint filed by Delegate David Ramadan (87th - R) on January 16, 2013. Specifically, they are investigating whether or not the toll rates are causing traffic to divert from the Greenway on to other roads.
To help the SCC hear from the public, an online petition was created and sponsored by Delegate Ramadan. Please take this opportunity to sign the petition by going to www.LowerGreenwayTolls.com to push for lower tolls on the Greenway. VA Code specifies that rates "shall be set at a level which is reasonable to the user in relationship to the benefit obtained; which will not materially discourage use of the roadway to the public; and which will provide the operator no more than a reasonable return as determined by the Commission."
Delegate Ramadan will be submitting a list to the SCC of all the names of the individuals who joined the petition. However, please plan to attend one of the hearings below to testify in person about your experience and the need to lower tolls on the Greenway.
At this time, the SCC is holding public hearings on the following dates:
    • June 6th in Sterling at the Park View High School (400 W. Laurel Avenue) at 4pm and 7pm.
    • July 18th in Richmond at the SCC (1300 East Main Street) at 10am.

Anyone interested in submitting written comments to the SCC directly may do so by 7/9/2013 via mail or online:

Thank you for your time and attention to this important issue.

I spent $1,400 after tax dollars on tolls in 2012. My New Year resolution was to never take the Greedway again - so far so good. Glad to see the pols engaged in a meaningful way.

Shim - make the comment on the website. Only helps add fuel to what a lot of folks (myself included) say. If it were cheaper I would use it more
