We live in The Southern Walk area. In the wee hours this morning, a few teens smashed our front lamp post, broke a neighbour's planter and dumped it on the road, tried to break into a neighbour's car and also managed to smash and break another neighbour's lamp post. A case has been filed woth the Loudoun county sherrif office.

Anyone has similar experience? Any leads??

I'm so sorry your property was damaged. And I'm so SICK of these malicious pranksers. Do you mind mentioning which street in Southern Walk?

We are on Avonworth as well and we have had a bike stolen out of the garage and my in-laws' car broken into in the past two years. I filed a report on both just for documentation purposes.

Wow! Bike taken from garage & car break-in..both are serious issues. Not something I'd expect in the kind of community we live in..

why wouldn't you expect that in this community? plenty of money, kids with expensive toys that they leave out constantly, homeowners who leave their cars, front doors and garages open/unlocked (not pointing at the person here with the theft- TONS of ppl do it)

this is the IDEAL neighborhood for criminals to target because there's a tons of opportunity to easily steal from people who don't think we have crime here.

I completely agree, these things happened where I grew up too, in a great neighborhood. It just shows you it can happen anywhere, no neighborhood is immune, but I do let the authorities know when they do occur as a responsible resident.

I can almost guarantee you these kids also live in the Avonworth Sq section of Broadlands.

Yep, it's been happening since I first lived in Broadlands as a teen in 1997 when there were 2 houses on my street. Kids get bored. I was a lifeguard in Broadlands for many years and the pool was vandalized every once in awhile too. It's too bad the pool company outsources now because I think summer jobs like lifeguarding are a good way to keep kids out of trouble and making their own money, but the claim is that they didn't have enough kids who wanted to work!

I saw them advertising for lifeguards on Craigslist, so they are looking for people.

Yeah, they're looking because the visa process has gotten hairy after the Boston bombings and most of the guards come from Eastern Europe. I remember as a former manager how difficult it was sometimes to find enough guards to keep the pool staffed, and I always wondered why. I loved being a lifeguard...what a great summer job.

LOL. So true. I had my first job at 14....... My daughter had her first 14 as well, but it seemed like she was the only one of her friends that were working.....

I think part of the problem is that you really need staff signed up for the whole pool season---that means THROUGH LABOR DAY. Most colleges are back in session in mid to late August. That means you lose your staff for the last three weeks of the season and its hard to find people who just want to work those weeks. That's why overseas staff is a good option. They'll be here from Memorial Day to Labor Day and their employer is sponsoring them.
