Broadlands Girl Scout Troop 6823 is in the process of organizing a Broadlands Green Halloween Costume Swap this fall.

Don't throw out your used costumes, swap them! Save $$ and keep them out of our landfills!

The First Annual Broadlands Green Halloween Costume Swap*

Sunday, Oct. 16 from 1pm-4pm at the Broadlands Nature Center

1. Drop a clean, gently-used, child-sized costume in bins located in Nature Center from now until Oct. 15 & pick up a swap ticket from HOA employee.
2. Come to Nature Center on Sun. Oct. 16, 1-4pm and swap your ticket for a "like-new" costume!
3. Don't have a ticket? Costumes only $5 each. Proceeds will help buy native trees to plant in LoCo common areas.

*Please note that costumes are donations; leftovers will be either donated to charity or offered at next year's costume swap. Thanks!

 

A big THANK YOU to those who've already dropped off some amazing costumes for the Oct. 16 Broadlands Green Halloween Costume Swap! We've got Spider Man, Buzz Lightyear, Princesses, a Ladybug, Eeyore, Batman, a slice of pizza, a fire fighter and much, much more!

And, we're still collecting!

So, go through those closets and drawers, and drop off your gently-used childs costume at the Broadlands Nature Center today! Either donate, or pick up a swap ticket if you'd like exchange for a "like-new" costume on event day!

Also, please spread the word with your playgroups, moms groups and family friends!

Swapping just half the costumes kids wear at Halloween would reduce annual landfill waste by 6,250 tons, equal to the weight of 2,500 midsize cars!**

I think it's a great idea! We donated a size 3-4 Disney Store Cinderella dress and blue ribbon neck collar today and are hoping to get another Cinderella dress that is size 5-6 out of the swap.

 

Well, then I'll just have to drop one off for you! Just wish we could put DIBS on stuff!!

 

What happens if we can't make it that day? I just realized my husband bought us tickets to a game and we won't be able to go pick out a costume now!

 

Today is the last day to drop off your gently-used kids' halloween costumes at the Broadlands Nature Center to participate in Sunday's Green Halloween Costume Swap from 1-4pm.

Thank you so much to those who have donated costumes and those who have dropped off costumes to swap. We've collected over 100 costumes so far!

Some of my favorites: chicken, baby penguin, slice of pizza, and Princess Leia complete with bun wig!

Of course, we've also got lots of super heroes, ninjas, princesses and witches to choose from.

Look for Girl Scout Troop 6823's Green Halloween Costume Swap spot this evening on FOX 5 News at 5pm today (also may run during 10 or 11pm segments!).

A huge thank you to the HOA employees for handing out swap tickets and to the Broadlands Wildlife Habitat Committee for sponsoring the event.

The costume drop-off bin will be at the Nature Center until Nov. 15 for costume donations only. If you'd like to exchange your costumes next Oct., look for swap ticket information in Aug. 2012.

Last year we swapped 82 costumes and donated $50 toward tree planting in Broadlands!

Hi Erica,
We were out of town the weekend of the swap, but participated last year- what a great idea! Any chance you still have some left over costumes? I am looking for princess costumes for my daughters for halloween... happy to buy them or swap for costumes i have in great condition...thanks!

The costume collection bins will be left in the Broadlands Nature Center for a limited time after the Halloween holiday. If you'd like to drop off a gently-used costume and participate in next year's swap, please do so, and give Joanne at the front desk your name/email. We will email you a swap ticket for next year's event. We'll gladly accept any costume donations as well!

 

Save the date!

The Third Annual Broadlands Green Halloween Costume Swap will be held Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9am to 11am in the Broadlands Community Center.

Starting Sept. 1, you can drop off your clean, gently-used child's costume in the marked bin at the Nature Center and get a a swap ticket from Broadlands staff.
Those with tickets may exchange at the swap for a "like new" costume.
Don't have a ticket? Starting at 10am, costumes may be purchased for $5 each. Any proceeds will go to the Girl Scout SHARE program.
