Was out for a walk near Mill Run and saw two boys on bikes taking down one candidates election signs. I called out to them to stop and they took off towards the school stopping to talk to a man passing out flyers. The three of them looked over at me and then the boys quickly rode off on their bikes. I stood there watching for a bit so disappointed in what I had just witnessed. 4 signs from the same one candidate had been removed and were laying on the ground. Many signs for the opposing candidate were up and left alone by the boys. Wish I had time to go chat with the man passing out flyers but was getting my walk in before a doctor's appointment and did not have the time, unfortunately. Sad to think what these two boys are learning. (My husband went back over and put the signs that had been removed back up.)

Purely out of curiousity, can you tell us whose signs were taken down? Or at least the political party?

Liz Miller's signs were the ones being taken down.

shortly before that time, Liz Miller was sitting at that voting location. I met her and a gentleman representing the Republican party. I wonder if Liz had just left and the alleged incident took place? At this point, personally I would like to be over with these elections... but did you plan on bringing this up with anyone?

Correction - I was at Mill Run right before this but saw Liz Miller at Eagle Ridge around 11:15 when I headed over there to vote.

Zeratul: No, wasn't going to bring it up in any official capacity--after my husband put the signs back up they remained up last I saw about 20 minutes ago. My thought and concern was that it was really disheartening to see kids getting a poor civics lesson and encouraged to behave in such a way. Disappointing.

Technically all of the signs that were next to waxpool road were in violation of the law. These signs are prohibited to be within the VDOT right of way per VA Code 33.1-369. I had words with both candidates that they were breaking the law by placing these signs. Neither had any respect for the law.

If anyone should be complaining, you should complain to the candidates. These signs trash our roadways and present a hazard to drivers by distracting them and blocking their vision, hence their illegal nature.

I wish Elizabeth Miller would take her signs down from in front of Eagle Ridge. Election is over. They were still up this morning when I drove by there.

I saw a man walking over from the new homes near Stream Valley Vets put those signs up. He really needs to take them down now...

Thanks for letting us know about those signs. I went over to both Eagle Ridge and Mill Run at 5:00 pm today and yanked them all up. I think our volunteers missed the ones at Eagle Ridge but our folks at Mill Run just told me they are pretty sure they took care of all of them there. Alas, it is a long-time prank that some people still think is funny to steal a few of these things and then re-plant them later, just to make the candidate whose name is on them look bad. Regardless, campaigns do miss a few sometimes and, whether they are still up somewhere after election day because we forgot them or because someone is trying to cause problems, we're happy to run out and get rid of them.

If anyone knows of any others, including any "new" ones that pop up at Eagle Ridge or Mill Run, please just mention it here. I'll keep a watch on this thread and will go get any that people tell me about.
