I have a townhouse and I'm thinking of getting a patio in the back yard. I talked to one vender who only does pavers who explained some of the problems with concrete patios and why pavers are better. I'll probably talk to someone who does concrete and will hear the reverse story.

So, if you do have a patio and feel like spilling your patio story online, what kind do you have? Do you like it? have you ever had any problems? Etc., et., ...

    Thanks in advance :)

We have pavers for ours. We get a lot of moss in the cracks between them but that's the only issue if you don't like that natural look. Make sure that whatever company you go with digs down at least 6 inches and uses a dirt compactor on each layer used to build it up. Some companies don't dig down far enough causing issues as it won't have a solid base.

We also looked at stamped concrete but ultimately went with the paver as we liked the natural color more. Plus we had some seats built that match.

    Good luck

Also, be sure thatthey use a good polymeric sand between the joints. Cheaper polymeric sand tends to wash away quicker, leaving gaps in the joints and causing more frequent reapplication of the sand.

I have a flagstone patio on concrete. It has been maintenance free and very glad I went with this over pavers.

We had a concrete patio put in about 6 years ago, cost about 12k. It started cracking in multiple places only after a few years, and shifted. Had another company come out a few months ago and lay flagstone over the top, which looks great and only cost about, 8k. So if I could have done it right the first time I would have done like vawahoo above and just had the flagstone over concrete the first time.

Lost Soul- who did you use as contractor, if I may ask. I am looking to have a patio built and I need a reliable contractor.

We used dream home exteriors from Manassas for our patio probably 6 or 7 years ago. Nathan and his team also did our complete kitchen remodel.

We have also been extremely happy with premier home services from Leesburg. Al helped me finish my basement and did our deck almost 10 years ago. Still looks great.
