I noticed that a new restaurant just opened in the Ashburn Village shopping center (where Giant is). It's called "At Kaiser's - the Austrian Restaurant." I haven't eaten there but I went inside to look at the menu. Lots of schnitzel and some Austrian beers on the menu. Prices were around $17.00 for a platter of food, which sounds expensive but seems to be on par with the Euro Bistro in Herndon and similar places. If the food is good it would be great to have a Bavarian style restaurant nearby. Someone told me it's owned by someone who grew up in Austria, so hopefully the food is good!

Okay, so it's great. This might be a problem being so close to home!

I thought it was very good!Authentic cuisine for sure.Delicious food.Come hungry! They don't have a lunch menu, so you get the same portions lunch or dinner (and same price).

They do have a children's menu, which is important in Ashburn!

Went tonight for dinner. We had the farmers bratwurst platter and stewed beef sirloin. The food was very good. We had a nice conversation with the owner. We will definitely be going back!

Lived in Germany 18 years so was very excited to see this Austrian place open. I did take out which I might not do in the future - breaded food always best served right then and there but here is my two cents. The Jaegerschnitzel was very good as well as the spaetzle that came with it. Better than most places I have tried here stateside. The Goulash soup was disappointing. It was very watery, a bit bland, and not as hearty as the soup should be. The pretzel was pretty good. The owner was nice and greeted me but I tipped for a take out order and it was only at the last minute right before my food came out that the waiter even asked if I wanted a drink (I sat at the bar) - I felt like the owner nudged him on that so they are still training which is understandable. While sitting in the bar I could hear the hammer of meat being flattened in the kitchen so I know they make to order. The music was a bit too loud - and a bit annoying. I like good Bavarian music but typically in a tent like atmosphere and not a dimly lit dinner place. I think when dining in - it could be a bit much. They have a nice selection of wine and a few beers but I was surprised that I did not see a pilsner on the list - all their beers appear to be on the heavy side. Lastly, this is the only place I have seen a Spezi! So kudos for that! But charging an extra .50 cents seems weird since its just Fanta and Coke mixed. Can't wait to hear what others think.

I would go back to dine in for sure.

Another positive review for this restaurant. We had the Jaegerschnitzel and the Wienerschnitzel and both were quite good. The spaetzle that came with the Jaegerschnitzel was excellent. Had the Apfelkuchen and the Hazelnut Crème crepe for dessert and enjoyed both.

The decoration is still a bit rudimentary. Hopefully they decorate a bit more so it feels more Austrian/German. They must have got some comments about the music as noted above as it was not very loud.

Prices were as expected - entrees in the $15 to $20 range. Thought the beer prices were a bit high - $5.50 for a 12 ounce Hofbrau.

Overall though we plan to return. The owner mentioned to us that they are still tweaking the menu and expect to soon have a different, cheaper, lunch menu.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here during their opening week! Polite and solicitous service, met the owner who was also friendly and looking for feedback. Gulaschsuppe while thin, was very tasty, full of tender meat. Same as the others on schnitzel and spaetzle, excellent flavor and quality. Very authentic! Zwiebelrostbraten was tender and delicious. Potatoes were undercooked but all else was wonderfully prepared and tasted imported from a Bavarian gasthaus!

Definitely need some spit and polish on decor and window ledges, but this place has heart and more than enough talent in the kitchen to have lines out the door soon. Please go and check them out, worth every pfennig! (Ok euro... I'm old school and remember the old money, lol ;) )

Also, interesting to note is that, according to the owner, they are doing a "soft opening". No publicity yet until the wait and kitchen staff get up to speed and they knock out some of the new restaurant bugs. Really a smart move on their part. Around here it seems many new restaurants open up to big crowds but cannot handle the rush which leads to slow service and inconsistent food. And of course bad publicity on forums like this one or by word-of-mouth.

Definitely going back to dine in. I think the Jagerschnitzel with spaetzle was well worth it. I hope they tweak their soup - I love love love Goulash and Goulash soup when made right. I had hoped it was because I got take out maybe mine just came off the top of the kettle hence why it was thin. If they tweak their beer offering to include Pilsner - my waistline could be in trouble. I want to try the dessert on my next trip. They have all the makings for a good restaurant and for opening Oct 1st I was impressed with what they pulled off so far. Obviously tweaks here and there are to be expected and short of living in Bavaria - there is always room for improvement ;) Great new addition to Ashburn.

I went there yesterday for dinner. I was very pleased with the veal wiener schnitzel with potato salad and I thought that the goulash soup was excellent.
There was a steady stream of people coming in which indicates that the place is gaining popularity and that there is value and good quality.
    I'll definitely be back.

Anyone have a link to a menu? When I search, I get a few restaurant review links and a lot Kaiser Permanente (health insurance, surely a totally different thread).

Thanks, Pirate. Yes, would agree the website is a little thin. Will just have to stop by and check out the real thing.

We went there day one, and been back multiple times since. I have been waiting for a German restaurant here in Ashburn for years, I am happy with Austrian, it's close enough. The food is excellent, the desserts are to die for, and I agree on the Spezi ... so happy that they have it. Actually the first night I ordered a spezi and the (of course brandnew) waiter asked me "just the noodles?" I said not Spaetzle, Spezi| and explained what it was ... they didn't have the Fanta yet.

I hope they will make it, I am doing my part in keeping them here. Oh, and the owner is from Vienna, and the chef is from Graz. :)

Been going here since the soft opening, the Jagerschnitzel with spaetzle is killer. Great pretzels.

We've been multiple times and find it to be quite good. Really nice to have a restaurant like this in the area.
