I know there's a small handful of negative reviews here but this forum is a tiny sampling of clients compared to how many went here happily over the years. the number of positive experiences that go unspoken far outweigh these few complaints, just like most businesses.

Sals was far from the BEST pizza place ever, they definitely had their share of issues worth a negative review. but they supported community events and charities, and while service on some days did lack friendly enthusiasm(I cleaned THAT up nicely!) The pizza was solid, as were the rice balls and certain pastas. They stayed in biz because if you liked their food style then it was consistently what you expected and you went back again and again. We've been pretty regular there since they opened, never had a bad meal. I think market saturation, location and service were their big problems, not the food.

I'm sad to see them go, few businesses even last as long as they did, and the fact that they did stay so long speaks volumes more than this thread.

Yes, their food was consistent - burned on a regular basis. We had to have pizzas remade often because they were black on the top and the bottom. Add to that the surly service and we finally gave up. We used to order from them about once a week but stopped about two years ago because the food and service both were unacceptable.

Yet another unfortunate closing of a local restaurant, the list could go on and on of restaurants that have had to close up shop in this area. You see so many restaurant pads (Ryan Park Center, next to Bertucci's, near the Exxon/BBT off of LCP, etc) and in shopping centers that sit vacant which is surprising in an area as populated and still growing as this area is. I know we have so many shopping centers, but when you look at the population base of this area, the traffic getting in and out of Ashburn in the evening to areas where there are a lot of chain restaurants and the continued growth it is a shame that we can't support the local restaurants more. I know much of it has to do with lack of a corporate lunchtime crowd with the Broadlands and Brambleton. I don't know how anyone in their right mind would try and open up a restaurant in this area with the number that have failed and continue to fail.

Yet you have restaurants like Fords and Manhattan Pizza which are independent and thriving.... good food, good service and fair prices. People will come. If the food is bad or the service rude or you are overpriced, you will not last.

If you're referring to the Tony's Pizza by the Toy R Us in Fairlakes... I LOVE their sandwiches. Never had their pizza.

There's a Johnny's Pizza "Coming Soon" sign hanging over the old Sal's now.

That location is awful. I hope they're getting a deal on the lease.

How is the location awful? It is mere steps away from Parallel, The Steakhouse and Bonefish, which are all doing well. Now, if you mean parking is bad because one might have to walk 30-40 seconds from a farther out spot, well, I can see you point. that would be exhausting!

It is NOT the location. Pizza joints that are primarily sit down establishments struggle because most people do delivery for pizza.

Yes, folks want convenience but visibility is necessary too.

It doesn't get more visible than that location traveling on Broadlands Blvd or Claiborne Parkway past that shopping center. Sure, if you are in the shopping center and you get hungry without knowing that restaurant was there, you might miss it. In that case, I guess you'll have to settle for tacos.

Was there last Saturday for the Santa rides. It's open and the guy in front of me was eating a slice. He said it was a little sweeter than he's used to but it was pretty good.
