I am new to Broadlands and will be registering my child for kindergarten next year at Mill Run. I have heard varying stories about what time of day to get to the school for registration. Some have told me I should be there as early as 5:30 a.m. I heard one story of someone getting in line at 6:30 a.m. and finishing at 10:30 a.m. (at Creighton's Corner)...that sounds insane to me! I called Mill Run about a month ago to get their thoughts and the woman I spoke with said they've never turned students away, so showing up in the afternoon after the crowds have died down would save me the time just waiting in line. I would like to believe that's true and save time, but I keep hearing these horror stories.

Does anyone here have first-hand experience with KG registration at MRES? I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts and advice...many thanks in advance!

Three years ago, I couldn't make the sign-up day, so I turned in my paperwork the next week. Not a problem (although no one told me about the optional evaluation they do later in the spring). Even though they had a completely full grade, we had a spot.

I couldn't put my hands on my child's birth certificate and so I had to order a new one. We didn't register for at least two weeks after, maybe more and had no problems having a spot in class in the fall. However the only issue to registering late is, as the previous poster mentioned, if you want to have your child evaluated there is a first come, first served sign-up sheet at the registration. I'm not too certain how fast that fills up, but it sounds as though that is filled up that first day... Hope that helps! Good Luck and welcome to Mill Run, it's a wonderful school! :)

I registered my daughter last year and showed up around 8:30am and got a number somewhere in the 70s. I believe there are 3 morning and 3 afternoon classes (?) so that would mean at least 125 - 150 kids being registered. So 8:30 put me right in the middle. I will say it took a while for my number to get called. Maybe an hour or two to get through the whole process.

I got there last year at 9:45 and was out at 10. I was told that they have to accommodate all the children.
On a side note I had my son screened for entrance into 1st grade because he had completed a so called "Kindergarten Program" at his day care. I thought since he could read beginner books and count to 100 that maybe he was ready for 1st grade. I was wrong and thank goodness he was placed in kindergarten. Come to find out that 80% of new kindergartners know all there letters/sounds and can count. I am still amazed at how far he has progressed this year. He can pick up almost any book up to 5th grade and just read it. It is a great school and I believe our children are getting a great education, better than any private school around here. Just be prepared to sit down with your kindergartner for an hour or two each night!

Thank you all for your input!! I feel much better about getting to the school later in the morning. I'll have my kids with me and a 5 a.m. wake up plus 3 hours of waiting did not sound fun.

I have heard endless praise about Mill Run...especially, the administration. We look forward to our children being a part of such a wonderful community.

My son is in kindergarten at Mill Run this year and his class isn't full. I think there was an issue with space a few years ago, but they changed the boundaries last year so it shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Like everyone else who posted here we are very happy with the school.
