Does anyone happen to have any details on the math behind the recent "Home Energy Report" that was sent out by Washington Gas? If you didn't get one, it shows your gas usage in therms, the average of your neighbors ("100 occupied nearby homes that have gas heat") and your "efficient neighbors" ("most efficient 20%").

Our report showed us using 41% more gas than our neighbors. I emailed a question to their customer service address about how they do the comparison, since it could easily be an apples to oranges situation (single family vs. townhouse or apartment/condo, larger sq foot home vs. smaller, etc.). Didn't get a response, so I wonder if WashGas factored square footage into the mix. It seems like a waste of paper to tell me that I'm using 41% more gas if I have 41% more space to heat.

I wouldn't trust the math they used to "average" your neighbors usage anyways. This is the same logic that sends out fliers locking you into a rate that is 10% higher than current for two years plus. Speaking of which, a convenient offer like that just came in after this "revelation" of averages.
