    Hi,
Can someone tell me if you are allowed to do something like this here?

Or is it ok to connect a french drain directly to the existing underground channel from our yard?

I would suggest submitting an application for what you are trying to accomplish, however, I would say no for drilling a hole in the curb.

For disclosure purposes- I sit on the Modifications Sub-Committee.

Not sure where you live, but if it is a VDOT street, then this is most likely not your property.
If it is an HOA owned private street, you would need HOA approval.

    Thanks @T8erman @vacliff
Our street is a HOA owned one.
I'm going to think about this and submit a modification request.

I thought the goal was to not have any stormwater runoff, thus reducing contamination of our water sources, etc?

Unfortunately - the storm drain belongs to VDOT and County as part of the storm water management facilities, and you cant drill, connect or otherwise modify/add-to/drain into these facilities as part of private lot maintenance. May want to look into getting someone who is experienced with drainage/construction out to take a look and see where you can run underground perforated ADS with a channel drain, connected to your down spouts.

Out of curiosity, is this modification to alleviate the swamp created by the sump pump draining from the houses? I just had a drainage person come and give an estimate, and creating a hole in the curb was one of the possible solutions he suggested.
