Does anyone have experience with getting (or DIY) a under deck ceiling? I am not finding a lot of research on options or previous projects but I started looking into a product called Drysnap. This is a vinyl siding material that snaps into a grid like a drop ceiling under the deck. The main point is to channel the water away so that the patio and floor space below stays dry.

I am sure there are other products out there and perhaps contractors that do this kind of work... just thought I would ask if someone has recent experience with this and any references for a installer?

We purchased our house with that vinyl material already installed. Not sure if it was the exact brand and it was a DYI by the previous homeowner. We pulled it all out because the space in between the upper deck and the grooves on the vinyl was the perfect habitat for squirrels and mice. We found tons of nests once it was down. However, it did look way better when it was up! I think the homeowner didn't install correctly b/c it did not carry the water away because there wasn't a gutter attached. We haven't had much luck finding a product that was comparable, if you do find something could you PM me? I'd love to be on the lower deck and not get wet! Best of luck!

    Trex RainEscape
    TimberTech’s DrySpace
    UnderDeck
    DEK Drain

I don't have experience with any of these, but have researched them. I would trust TimberTech and their system looks nice. Trex requires it to be installed before the flooring. There are several others, but to be honest, they seem to cost way more than what they should (based on what it is). You might check with a company that wraps window in vinyl/aluminum. Seems like something they could bend up pretty easily. Just make sure you don't leave a huge opening or you will get animals as the previous posts stated.

We are currently considering a deck with an under decking system... any experiences good/bad in addition to what mwork has reported? Is that a common problem?

Yea I gave up once I began to learn the cost. It seems to cost way more than it should. I think the installed was asking around $6000 for around 650 square feet. It seems possible to do yourself but I do not want to get into wasting my weekend time... not worth it to me.

We just finished getting our quotes for a deck and one included the under decking system. For a 625 sq ft deck it was $13,200...... Incredible!

Yea, I got the same type of quote for over 10k, and that was with the deck already done, no thanks. Since I have a retractable awning on the deck and I don't need 100% water proof on the patio under the deck, the contractor that is doing the vinyl wrap under my deck used soffeting material to provide a finished look. It's the typical stuff you find under your roof overhangs, it's perforated to let water drain through. It's not water proof, but it provides a clean finished look and doesn't mold like some other options I've seen my neighbors try. To do the soffet and vinyl wrap for all the exposed timber under the deck was 3k. Much better.

Oh no!! If I had bought the deck, the under deck ceiling, and pine wood finishing it would have been slightly under $65k........ Needless to say I didn't go with the deck or any of the mentioned options.....
