There have been many accidents on Waxpool recently. The speed limit on Waxpool was probably set a long time ago. It may be hard to believe but when we moved in, there was at least one working farm on Waxpool. I suggest that there are many more busy intersections now. More coming. Is it time to have a more realistic speed limit? I suggest 25 miles per hour.

Speed limit is not the issue for a 4-lane split road, it is poopy-arse drivers most likely not paying attention.

Oh, and it may be hard to believe but I remember when almost ALL of Waxpool was bordered by working farms.

no one will drive 25 mph on Waxpool road. Dream on.
This is a main thoroughfare -- 45 is what it is. Same with Broadlands Blvd from Claiborne to Belmont Ridge Road.

Waxpool is 40mph going through Broadlands, and when you turn left at Truro Parish, the speed limit goes down even more

How many times have I approached the Vestals Gap intersection and a car suddenly turns in front of me with no notice. Then I look in my rearview and there are no cars behind me. Had they waited 2 more seconds...

Are you kidding me? "Some" who live in Broadlands must wait for an additional 2 seconds? AS IF! ;)

I've lived here for three months and there has been at least two deaths on Waxpool, I've seen two accidents being cleaned up at Demott/Waxpool intersection and read about the one that involved a motorcycle recently. There's probably been more. People are always going to drive badly, I don't know how some of these people even have licences. The only way to possibly help is to lower the speed limit. When its busy drive time I avoid that intersection completely. I have a three year old that I would rather not risk possibly being killed or injured there if I already know its dangerous. If the speed limit is 45 you know people are driving 55/60. Id rather get hit by a car moving 30/35 than 55/60. Maybe they will slow down a little if they had to pay a few double speeding fines. I don't think the answer is just sitting back and ignoring the problem.

The road is fine.. some drivers are not. The sheriff is out on waxpool pretty commonly and I haven't seen speed as an excessive problem there.

    o/` let it be.. o/`

terrible unrealistic idea though your heart is in the right place wanting safe roads. the road is too big and too long for such a slow speed limit- no one will follow it anyway. rules don't need to change, the way people DRIVE and behave as PEDESTRIANS need to. the road isn't unsafe- the HUMANS are. :)

Belmont Ridge Road is a serious and hazardous mess, and several intersections around here ARE dangerous, but Waxpool's only problem is the jackholes driving on it, imho.

Don't forget the idiots driving on Demott too - especially the ones using it to get between Waxpool and Broadlands Blvd to avoid the lights on Claiborne. I'm sure they're even more to blame since most of them can't read those signs saying "25 mph". Never mind the fact that it's a residential street. I've had them on my bumper or flying around me because I'm doing the speed limit.

I've personally had a enough with the speeders on these roads. Yes, the roads are 45mph and in the perspective on those on Waxpool and Broadlands Blvd, it is a great speed; however, the geometry of the roads creates hazardous blind spots for those trying to get across these roads. One minute, no car is coming, but by the time you try to make it over to the other side of the road, there's a car speeding towards you and people are so evil that they won't slow down. It's time for Loudoun County to implement speed cameras. That's the only thin that'll get driver's attention.

If you feel strongly, I also suggest contacted the representatives listed above. I plan to flood their inbox just I do with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Department.

I'd like to reiterate that Waxpool is not 45mph in Broadlands. 40 mph signs abound on Waxpool in our neighborhood. I just wish there was more enforcement of the speed limit on Waxpool and Truro Parish Drive (which is 35mph).

Waxpool doesn't intersect with Broadlands Blvd, you may be thinking of Claiborne Parkway. I agree that Claiborne should be a lower speed limit, though.

Not looking for 25mph, but maybe 35 mph (what it was a couple of years ago). People still would speed but would be around 40-45mph, not 50-55 mph.

It doesn't matter what the speed limit is, people are still going to drive the way they're going to drive. I drive down Demott towards Waxpool and cross over at least three times a week, sometimes more. I pay attention, I don't pull out if I think someone is even remotely going too fast. I look left, right, then left, right again, and then again. I haven't been in an accident there. Like others have said, it's not the speed limit, it's the bad drivers. If traffic is too heavy, then I take the right onto Waxpool and go down Claiborne to get where I need to go. I consciously make that choice. I don't sit at the stop sign looking at my phone and then look down one direction and then take off. Am I the best driver? NO, I speed on occasion. But I know there are bad drivers out there and I am extra careful. Until people stop thinking their 5000 lb weapon is superior, we will always have these problems.

Is that why people regularly tailgate me on Demott, they are avoiding claibourne? I live off Demott, and tend to stay just under the 25 mph speed limit when they do. :)

I have noticed that the light at Claibourne/Waxpool takes forever any time I need to go through it, some people have probably gotten into the habit of driving like maniacs to avoid getting stuck there. Maybe the timing could be adjusted to shorter cycles so that there aren't always a few cars stopped at an empty intersection just staring at each other.
