Has anyone been successful at replacing the really cheap ball latches Van Metre installed on most of the closet doors. All of ours have "popped out" and I can't find the proper replacements.

We live in the Southern Walk Townhomes...not sure if they used these everywhere or not.

Sounds like what we have in the north. You can find the parts at Home Depot (haven't checked Lowes). I end up ripping out the whole hardware and putting in a new one. Home Depot usually has two types in stock, both are better then the ones Van Metre put in, but they do have a plate as part of the mounting, so you may have to counter sink them a little into the top of the door. But I've never had to replace them once I take the time to remove the Van Metre one.

I use oil and the oil worked well for the closet door ball latches if its difficult to close because the balls have long dried out.

The balls are adjustable by pushing and turning simultaneously (I think it's counter clockwise if it's too tight). You'll have to play with it to figure out which direction to turn it.
