    Hi guys,

I have a job offer at the FDA in Silver Spring but am hesitant due to long commute from here. Anyone here make that commute and would like to carpool or know how long it typically takes in the morning leaving around 7:30 returning at 5 to 5:30?

    Thank you,

    Shyam

The commute by car may be awful but the Metro Silver Line will make it much easier - when it finally gets here.

Did that commute about 4+ years ago. Used Waxpool+28+DTR+Beltway+29. It took me anywhere between 1 to 2 hours each way. Each day is different as the beltway is very unpredictable. Sunlight on DTR is also a factor - though that is seasonal.

Waxpool is considerably worse now than 4 years ago, the Greenway would shave off about 20+ minutes. Do not use the summer commute as a judge.. you get more accurate in your estimates when school is in session.

    HTH!

KT - Unforunately there is no Metro that goes near the FDA. So that won't be an option though it might make traffic better.

Sri - Thanks I figured I will definitely have to use the Greedway as much as I hate to. If you had to make a guess as to how many days are going to be: 1 hr, 1.5 hr, and how many were 2 hr today what would you guess? Is it an even 33% split?

    thanks,

    Shyam

Hard to tell what the split is. Fridays usually is a breeze relative to the other days. I usually found going into RV more consistent than the return trip. The return always backed up between the 270 merge and the american legion bridge. And it changes as the season goes, and when DST is in effect and is not. BTW - I should have mentioned my commute took me a few miles north on 29 past the FDA complex, maybe another 8-10 minutes.

Thursdays are the worst - whether school is in session or not
If you get to pick a day for telecommute, it wins hands down

Is this the white oak campus? The 1.5-2 hour time frame is what I'd also estimate during those times. I supported FDA in 2011; my main location was the Gaither Road location in Rockville but also went to White Oak. I would leave here at 5 am to beat the traffic.

I'm not sure what department you would be in but certain areas did have a decent work from home policies. At the end I was only going in two days a week.
