My daughter stated that it was pajama day and that costumes were not allowed. Ummm, what?!?!

None of the schools allow costumes...we had superhero day instead. Not everyone celebrates Halloween...

We're allowed 3 parties a year. Hillside is having parties at winter break, Valentine's Day, and end of year.

Not saying there needed to have a party, but let the kids wear their costumes.

As for families choosing not to celebrate it, well, sometimes standing by ones beliefs is hard. Are the schools going to stop having meat at lunch because it makes raising one's child a vegetarian hard?

Costumes are a distraction. I'm glad we don't have to worry about them for school.

Really? Some of my fondest memories as a child are halloween at school. I just don't get why it's being removed. PC everywhere these days.

Let's just take all the fun out of everything. Will that make everybody happy and safe?

Mill Run has a "Book Character" parade so this kids are encouraged to bring a costume for the parade and carry the book if they want to show who they are....Some families take it seriously and really do a great job with creativity and imagination... and then some choose to take the simpler route and wear something like a Superman costume.

But, as a whole, the kids love it and get to have Halloween celebrations, which to me is a good thing...rather than letting the adults mess it all up and make it confusing or something.

Is this a school decision or LCPS ? It's a recent change, my kids had Halloween parties at Hillside up until the last couple of years. This was sort of replaced by the kids party at the Community Center (Grades 3 thru 5), BTW, which the kids seemed to enjoy more anyway.

I grew up in Fairfax Co and we did Halloween and had a Colonial day and a Roman day at third and 6th grades. I know they still do it as my buddies son has done this, what about Loudoun do we have something like that?

I'm just as happy not to deal with the hassle of packing a costume. The kids could go to the Halloween party at the Community Center or to Spooky Bingo at Hillside to dress up outside of trick or treating. They don't also have to dress up to go to school. I'm a curmudgeon who would also get rid of pajama day given the opportunity. Pajamas are for sleeping, not for going to school.

Kids get all of adulthood to choose to be a curmudgeon. They should get a few years to experience not being one so they can make an informed choice.

I don't know if it's an LCPS thing but Dominion Trail Elementary didn't do a Halloween costume day. The PTA sponsors a Halloween dance, though, and the kids can wear costumes to that.
