I noticed all the metal poles along the roads in the neighborhood. I assume they are to guide the snow plows along the roads to avoid tearing up the grass. Anyone else think its an eye sore? I think I would rather deal with a few patches of torn up grass rather than looking at these poles for the next 3-4 months. Just saying...

I don't mind it if it saves money.

A few months of poles EASILY saves several thousands (or more) in repairs to curbs and sod.

I dont mind the poles... though I do think there are sections of streets where we could have spaced them out more, and hence used much less.

And why only use Poles? Isn't that discriminating against all the other European nations?

jeez....everyone take a deep breath. Seems like some folks have some pent up argumentative behavior they need to hone before the holidays?

Anywho... "Thousands to repair sod and curbs"? I doubt it. The state owns the curb and the damage so any destruction and repair to a curb on the road does not get paid out of the HOA fees one way or another as far as I know. In any event, if it did save that much money the state would do it on all their roads. I think the more likely explanation is that the landscaping company did it to make their lives easier. Repair sod? Can't imagine that costs more than the poles and having to put them up and down each season.

Any repairs to the sod/grass along the roadways is paid for by the HOA. The state could care less about repairing the damage. In their eyes, it isn't necessary. Even though the HOA maintains the grass and landscaping in the road right-of-ways, it is technically the state's responsibility. If the HOA stopped, then it would get mowed maybe 2-3 times per year and no maintenance (fertilizing, seeding, repair and replacement, etc.) would be done.
If I remember correctly, the HOA paid over $20,000 to repair grass due to snowplow damage in 2010 or 2011 (the winter with all the big snowstorms).
