My beautiful wife is finally tired of her contacts. Who has had a great experience?

I had mine done at NewView Laser Eye in Reston 8-10 years ago. Good experience with no issues.

I used Dr. Boutros (the guy on the radio) a whole bunch of years ago. He did a great job, eyes are still perfect and they were so bad before. When I was researching I was told to go to the person who does the most with the best results. Good luck.

I went to Dr. Mark Whitten at the Laser Eye Center in Reston over 10 years ago. He's no longer in this area, but does have an office in Richmond and in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. I highly recommend him: I have an astigmatism in my right eye, and at the time my vision was 20/600 in one eye and 20/550 in the other (yes...I had to pay attention if I took my glasses off for any reason, because I could not see to find them!). Dr. Whitten corrected my vision to 20/20, and my sight is still good today. Dr. Whitten's website is www.whittenlasereye.com.

    A few insights/tips:

I do see auras around lights at night (stoplights, head/taillights, etc.) I was told about this possibility and it's a bit annoying but I would still choose to have the surgery if I had to do it again.

Bring very dark sunglasses with you on the day of the surgery.

I stayed up all night the night before my surgery. I was good and sleepy for the procedure, but it wasn't a problem at all. I got a dose of Valium, my eyes were numbed with drops, and there was a little device to hold your eye open-which wasn't bothersome at all because each eye took about 20 seconds (all I had to do was look at the flashing red light). I slept the entire day after getting home, which helped me avoid the "sand in your eyes" feeling you might experience afterwards.

You absolutely must not touch, rub or scratch your eyes for awhile after the surgery (I can't remember how long they said). If you're used to doing things like not being so gentle taking your eye makeup off, or taking your glasses off and rubbing your eyes, practice getting out of that habit.

Good luck with your decision, and I think you'll be delighted not to have to mess with contacts or glasses anymore!

I had mine done 7 years ago at Dr. Boutros' practice (those radio ads used to be on all the time, and they must do thousands of the surgeries) but by another gentleman not Dr. Boutros there. Went great, no problems. I don't get the night vision problems. I did almost immediately start having to wear reading glasses for close up or tiny print like medicine bottles, but then again, I was at that age where many people experience that anyway. My distance vision has stayed better than 20/20 ever since. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I used Dr. Whitten when he was with TLC in Reston. I hear the other docs there are good too. I personally, would not use a doctor that has to advertise on the radio and not get business via word of mouth, but I do know people that have used him and results were fine.
