Fair points, but this problem, as described by the updates from Sarah don't highlight this is a labor ("worker") problem- more so of other logistical factors. Although, as they work longer and longer without breaks, the law of diminishing returns applies.

I'm drawn to the inevitable conclusion that the preparations were not adequate. I get my opinion as do you, yours.

What would be a more reliable service? The one we have knows our community intimately and has been doing it for years. Can you call around to other communities residents and ask them how their streets are doing? If you can find another large community th
I would like to know what "inadequate preparations" you refer to? What preparations weren't done that should have been?

Then your interpretation was wrong. The point was about what the PRIORITY is.. not an expectation that there will always be a single lane clear.

They need to make statements like that because people go bonkers when their street isn't clear curb to curb.. or there might be some snow left.. or the walking paths aren't clear yet. They were simply telling you what the priority is.. just like VDOT will prioritize the major highways before the residential streets.

Problems with phones.. I agree that is something they can improve upon. Is it worthy of calling them to the whipping stone? I don't think so.
Fuel not accounted for? This is a stretch.. and frankly shows little empathy for the struggles of the greater event.
Now we spread rumors about diverted equipment... even if it did happen, ever consider you might be on the positive side of that some other time? Are we so selfish we can't ponder any situation except one where we 'lose'?

hah.. few extra bucks. You still have this naive thought that this is about 'being cheap' or failing to spend... or that contractors can scale equipment and budgets on a week's notice. In the grand scheme.. we are WAY ahead.. and have done so with IMO a reasonable cost.

Give it a few days and the next wave of 'why isn't XYZ path' cleared complaints will appear... while other parts of the county still struggle to get a school bus through.

I'd say that not marking fire hydrants on private hoa streets is a big issue. I've tried to find the one closest to our house on Larchmont and I can't find it. The plows have buried it so deep it's impossible to digg out. I know we (as an HOA) spent monies on the curb markers but we didnt mark the hydrants. As soon as I find ours, I'm marking it myself and hopefully the HOA doesn't remove it.

I believe the President of the HOA lives on Autumn wood. Check your facts before you get in my face. Let's just say my information was correct. The plows got to you before anyone else.

That's a good point. We have the sticks to mark the road edges, I don't think it would be too difficult to do something to the fire hydrants to mark them. Thanks for the comment.

The plows got to Autumnwood YESTERDAY. And that was not before everyone else. Basing this on posts, pictures, comments from friends in the community that were plowed out on SUNDAY. So you can check YOUR facts.

Is there a schedule for coming back to make a larger passable lane?
We were thinking with the possible rain anticipated this afternoon, it would make the mountains even more solid and more difficult to move.

Habitat, I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but I can assure you it is not accurate. I urge you to come down and speak directly to residents of Autumnwood Sq and you will quickly realize we did not get any preferential treatment. The information that Sarasmom posted earlier in this thread is accurate. We saw a plow early during the blizzard and maybe one on Saturday, and then nothing until late yesterday (Monday) afternoon. On Monday morning, we still had about a foot of packed snow on our street and no way for cars to come in or out. If that's your definition of 'preferential treatment', then I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I have pictures of our street over the last few days if you're interested in seeing them.

If you still believe that the plows were somehow diverted to Autumnwood Sq because I live there, I urge you to please come to the next Board meeting on February 9th and formally address to whole Board directly with your accusations, concerns and with your proof. In the meantime, I ask that you stop spreading false rumors about me, the rest of the Board, the HOA Staff and/or the plow contractors. They are doing a magnificent job considering the situation. Your postings and unsubstantiated accusations towards me and others are growing old.

If you would like to discuss this directly with me, please call me and I will be glad to discuss this situation with you in a civil manner and provide you with the correct information since your 'reliable source' seems to be far from reliable.

Leesburg, which is closer to the mountains and has a higher elevation than Ashburn, averages 22 inches a year. Purcellville averages the same. Wanna reach into West Virginia for your next talking point?

You went on a rant based on nothing more than an unsubstantiated rumor. You besmirch people who serve our community based on nothing. Homeowners who live on the street you refer to tell you that you're wrong. Yet you double down on your BS. Are you purposely being an ass? :screwy::hater:

There is NO WAY I'm going to be able to shovel the sidewalk in front of my townhouse as the back hoe piled an 8 ft high mountain of snow there. I'm hoping I don't get a citation, but I DID dig out the mailbox and fire hydrant.

See how I posted and didn't complain about anything or insult anyone else?

I am curious, where do you get the statistics? Those numbers seem low across the board. I based mine on the NWS link and reports of snow in Ashburn versus Dulles, which were stated at the time, but I can't find them anymore. I think the prevailing attitude of those taking the opposite viewpoint is the same exercised by our political leaders. "On average, we don't get that much snow, so why should we prepare is if we were New England"?

Considering the loss of economic output will be measured in the billions, it is time to begin the conversation about being prepared in more adequate fashion.

It is not specifically related to this thread, but I am sick and tired of the Loudoun County Schools closing as much as they do "due to the weather". Think of the disadvantage we have because of this and the amount of stress put on our educators to cram in material with the time constraints.

Aside from that rant, I disagree with the statements that our plow service performed admirably. A company who has worked with our community for 18 years and had a weeks warning of 30+ inches could have done a better job of keeping the bare essentials, which is one passable (which does not mean scraped to the surface) lane.

If we are still under a state of emergency, why are folks parking on Village Dr.? How are the plows supposed to make the road any wider?
