We're new to the area and will be having guests in town from abroad. They'd like to see a winery and have lunch there next week. Any suggestions of wineries with good wines and scenary? Thank you!

Stone Tower is fantastic and gorgeous. But they don't really serve much food. You can bring a picnic, however.

8 chains north off of route 9 is always great and comfortable. You can bring a picnic and enjoy some great wines with a chocolate truffle pairing if your game. they are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Just went to Stone Tower over the weekend. Was noisy, crowded and a bit overpriced, but the views were amazing. it felt like a Califonia winery, rather than a Loudoun winery.

Our personal favorite wineries in Loudoun are Zephaniah (near Stone Tower) and North Gate (near 8 Chains) We also second the 8 Chains recommendation and would suggest Hillsborough Winery for the view in the same area. For a complete list of Loudoun wineries, with a map: http://www.visitloudoun.org/sites/all/themes/visitloudoun/brochures/Loudoun-Wine-Trail-Guide.pdf

We also like Sunset Hills Vineyard https://www.sunsethillsvineyard.com which is a little farther out in Purcellville and that is right off of 287 (Berlin Turnpike). They offer a light fare and also truffle tastings. Enjoy!

The Barnes in Hamilton, Doukenie, Northgate, and Otium...also try Bogati....these wineries are NOT industrial wineries but rather have ambiance and treat you like royalty. Have fun...try Cushed Cellars on the weekend only!!!!!!

Ooo! Ooo! My favorite subject, as my husband and I are having lots of fun touring wineries in NoVA. We both like reds wines the most, I don't have a lot of opinions on white wines. I've been using the Winery passport app to keep up with where we've been and what we've enjoyed. We are so lucky to have so many great places to visit in Loudoun!

-868 Vineyards - lovely scenery, good wines, and a restaurant I really want to lunch at (dinner looks really pricey)
-Arterra Wines in Delaplane - small selection as the winemaker/owner is super picky about what he produces.. really good reds and their white is great... even their "dessert" wine is good. Not for anyone who has problems walking - their walkway is SUPER steep.
-Bogati - Yuck :( Their wines seemed very sharp tasting and their Malbec was a light pink. Really disappointed.
-Casanel - Yummy reds. I'd like to go back as we didn't get to wander around outside. We visited during very cold weather.
-Corcoran - Enjoyed their ciders. Wines were good, nothing stood out. I understand they also have beers and bbq!
-Delaplane Cellars - Really pretty view, good wines.
-Doukenie Winery - Pretty scenery, wines did not stand out.
-Hiddencroft Vineyards - Really liked their rose and Cab Franc
-Hillsborough************* members of this winery! Love the view, love the wines, their rose, their onyx and cab sav are my favorites. We just visited a month ago for their barrel tasting. A fun way to pass the afternoon. Super happy with this place.
-Naked Mountain - this one seemed more commercial? TONS of wines to taste, but none stood out except for the Port, of all things. Not really a Port fan, but this was good. Not syrupy.
-North Gate Vineyard - Love that it's very eco-friendly. Wines were ok
-Otium - beautiful view. Wines are more robust. We ordered sausage (Lothar's!!) and local cheese with a bottle of wine, but had to figure out how to open the packaging on our own, as we were told Otium had no knives or utensils to help us out. Thankfully I had a Leatherman in my purse to save the day?!? Our group found the whole thing pretty funny. Could have been the wine talking. :)
-Quattro Goomba's - really neat place to visit and the scenery is lovely. A couple of the reds are good, pizza is fantastic.. I hear the beer is excellent.
-Stone Tower Winery - BEAUTIFUL location. Wines did not stand out at all, and I understand they may import some of their grapes? It was crowded and cold when we went, and we definitely didn't fit in with the North Face crowd. I imagine it's an absolutely gorgeous place for a wedding.
-Sunset Hills - I'm going to try this one again. We weren't impressed with the wines the first time, but I think that also had to do with the "wine bros" atmosphere we encountered. Ugh. I plan to go back in a few weeks. I hear their wine slushies are excellent and the view is lovely.
-Tarara Winery - I haven't visited in a few years, but I remember their wines were really good.
-Zephaniah Farm - really enjoyed their Norton and their tasting setup in an old farmhouse.

Not wine, but LOTS of fun - Bloomery Sweetshine just over the line in WestVA. Excellent Lemoncello in many different flavors! A really fun place to visit. Make sure you take an SUV to drive up their crazy gravel hill.

Now that I look like some crazy wino, I would love to hear about more great places. Crushed is next up on my list.

Have to agree with just about everything Zannab said. Do NOT miss the pizza at QG. They make some mighty fine beer next door too.
I'll add Lost Creek, Greenhill, Winery 32 as worthy places to taste some nice wines. Creek's Edge has a beautiful facility to which they are addng an event space. Drive a little further out and visit Twin Oaks Tavern for the view (as gorgeous as the view at Bluemont). Try Rappahannock Cellars for a lovely red blend among other nice selections.

I am surprised you missed Fabbioli. The raspberry Merlot is fantastic.

My favorites are Breaux, Hillsborough, Fabbioli, Notaviva. I have not been to Stone Tower, but heard it is amazing. Arterra is new and well worth the drive. Wines are excellent and you can shop Hawkmoth Art. Sandy Gray Murray is an amazing artist who incorporates her love of the vineyards in her earthy art work. Have fun exploring the wineries!

Mother in law is coming for the weekend. She likes sweeter wines and we like the dry. Recommendations for sweeter wines?

Winery 32 has a nice selections of wine, one on the sweeter side featuring peaches. Even someone not fond of sweeter wines will likely enjoy this one.
