Has anyone been noticing tiny brown bugs in your bathtubs/showers? Within the past two months, we've been noticing them coming out of our drains. When we had Moxie Pest Control come to our house he said they come up from the sewers. GROSS!!! Another friend of ours has seen the same thing. Anyone else? Do I contact Loudoun Water?

From WikiHow: If swarms of small flies have suddenly sprung up around your kitchen sink, bathroom sink, or shower, you may have a drain fly infestation. They range in color from tan to dark gray, are fuzzy, and hold their wings at an angle to their bodies, giving them an overall "heart" shape. Drain flies live and breed in the organic matter trapped inside moist drains, so getting rid of these pests is usually as simple as removing the gunk inside your pipes. A thorough cleaning should do the trick, and before you know it the drain flies will be history.

But these bugs don't fly -- they jump. They aren't fuzzy either. Almost remind me of fleas but much smaller.

We get them in the spring/summer time and they usually go away in the winter. They are very small...I almost need to take a photo and then magnify in order to see them clearly. If this is the same thing, then I'm pretty sure they are springtails. We were told that they are deep in the soil and they do like moisture. There is not too much you can do for them. An exterminator said they can treat the soil but they will most likely come back. They love the drains, bathrooms and the windowsills. They are a nuisance but apparently don't cause damage, and they don't survive long away from the moisture/soil.
