Not sure if I'm in the minority or majority at this point, but I'd like to see another gas station. It's laughable that whether I'm in Herndon or Leesburg gas is cheaper, and in some cases by 10-20c per gallon. There is zero competition within Broadlands. Fair to say that is a leading reason.

If it brings more customers to the shopping center, then other business might be all for it in the hopes it brings them more customers as well. When my husband and I owned a store in a strip mall, we were thrilled when the anchor grocery store added gas pumps because it meant a lot more traffic for our business.

Have you looked at the location, and how you have to get in and out? I talked with 3 other businesses right where the gas station is proposed, 1) they had no idea 2) they could not believe where it was being squeezed into 3) their responses were like "really? that's going to be terrible" "hmmm, how are we supposed to go around this again"....

I think it's obvious the Van Metre does whatever they want.

As it is, I avoid this shopping center like the plague. The parking layout is atrocious and the driver's navigating around the ridiculous peninsulas and blind spots is a challenge. If this was an attempt to thwart a would-be robber's escape, then I would say they've succeeded. It will be interesting to hear the merchant's feedback.

Kind of amazing that my 84 year old father is healthy and sharp and active and he never worried about the leaded gasoline station he lived right next door to his first 21 years.

There are hidden dangers to chemical/toxic exposure. It's insidious and may be passed on genetically, instead.

Well, not every smoker dies from cancer too... Obviously, intention here isn't that we are all going to get poisoned... it's the fact that the pollution will come with this. Harris Teeter should have thought about this before and not to try to squeeze it in as it is in the plan.

No other shopping center has the gas station located in the middle of driveway and businesses.

Dangerous chemicals hiding in everyday products
    By Nadia Kounang, CNN
Updated 2:33 PM ET, Fri July 1, 2016

    ....
    Air pollutants

Air pollution from burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil or gas is usually associated with respiratory issues. However, these pollutants can also include nitrogen dioxide, formaldehyde and benzene.

Higher exposure to air pollutants has been associated with lower birth weights, preterm deliveries and congenital heart defects. The World Health Organization (PDF) considers exposure to benzene a major public health concern.

Aside from trying to avoid polluted areas, you can make sure to buy furniture and products that advertise themselves as formaldehyde-free. Try to avoid buying furniture made with particleboard, plywood or pressed wood. Many of these products use glues containing formaldehyde.
    ....

So my point is, it all adds up. If it will prevent someone from getting sick because they were most vulnerable - than it's worth to oppose to it. This is only one of the problem with it.

Closer gas station means less driving, ergo less emissions, ergo less benzene! Win Win! ;)

Perhaps HT could lean forward with hybrid charging stations instead. Shoppers could charge their vehicles while getting groceries.

More petrol and diesel stations in Broadlands would be convenient and help with competition. The one at Safeway is a decent location, perhaps HT should move into the old Safeway space. I agree, with the Metro coming in a few years, the Exxon at Chipotle will be even worse. Perhaps a gas station could be put behind Home Depot, near the movie theater and Metro parking?

Agree - all shopping plazas should be equipped. The only charging stations I see are at the MOMs stores.

You sound like you only travel to and from gas station. :)

BTW 3 businesses I talked to are the bank, the animal hospital, and the dry cleaners... in addition to the manager at that time at HT - who had no idea about it too...

I think T8 has a big backyard. Let's put the station there - it'll save him all kinds of time! :shakehead:

That area is already a driving hazard without the extra traffic from a gas station. With the traffic for Domino's, UPS, and the martial arts place...people parking illegally at the curb, etc., it will be a mess. I'm not opposed to another gas station, but it seems like they are trying to force fit this into the space.

Here's what I don't like about gas stations in Ashburn. Drove to work this morning--
Gas in Broadlands: $2.39/gal. Gas in Haymarket: $1.90.
