Looks like Dr. Wiger has vanished and the practice has closed. All of the employees have left. Anyone know what happened? What are patients doing to find a new doctor? Freaking out over here. Always thought he would be around.

Are you talking about the practice here in Broadlands? I went there a couple of weeks ago with questions and was told that Dr. Wiger has sold the practice (in Broadlands) to the woman we met with. They seemed overly aggressive in their sales tactics and I even commented to my wife that it felt like they were desperate... maybe I was right.

I hate to slam a business that we once liked, but I would strongly recommend that anyone needing orthodontic treatment look elsewhere. Service is appalling. I was there this morning for two hours. Other patients were there for a similar time - kids were sitting in chairs not being worked on at all. Lots of frustrated patients and parents. One kind technician apologized to me (and I could hear her on the phone apologizing to someone else later on) but no one else seemed to care.

My daughter is almost to the end of her treatment, but I have had a terrible time understanding when the braces come off and what the delay is (we are one month past the removal date).

Patients that have longer to go in their treatment at Wiger's are (rightly) panicking. I do not know what I would do if I had to go more than a month or so with the experience I have had the last two visits.

Again, I hate to be negative, but I also hate to see a child and their parents go through what we have.

I agree with AJHT. We can no longer support this business. We are a month past what was supposed to removal. The last 2 scheduled appts, we supposed to have a specific date to have the braces removed, and we still do not have a date yet. I have a very unhappy child and a very upset parent. I had a very frank meeting with the new dr at our last appointment, and told her that I was not happy and I thought they were not being aggressive with my child's treatment. Unfortunately, after that last scheduled appt, we need to have 2 additional emergency appts as part of her new appliance had broken. At the second appt, another patient was having a similar conversation with her.

We go back next week, and if we do not have a removal date, heads will be rolling.

Anyone have suggestions on what to do? We have finished paying, but my son also still has his braces on. Honestly, it was almost like the practice had checked out 6 months ago, even before the new doctor came on. My son should have had his off by now and now I wonder what is going on. I hate to have to go take him with a mouth full of braces to a new practice since it sounds like no one knows what is going on with the practice. I noticed the web page was different today, but the office was open when I drove by.

I'm suprised you guys are worked up over date slips like a month or two... they are making estimates, not setting baking times. When you get your braces off was when the teeth and jaw was where it needed to be.

I mean, a year or so... ok.. but a month?? The office and other concerns I totally get.. but the removal estimates seem like poor expectations of what the final process would be.

It is a communication issue. If they would tell us the reason for the delay, we would both be fine. My daughter had an underbite and to our untrained eyes, it looks to be corrected. We have been asking since June about the removal date and they are alway vague (saying, 'we are almost there'). They have not taken an x-ray THIS YEAR, so I'm not sure how they know we are almost there - as I understood it from the initial consultation, an xray can tell you if the jaws are lined up the way they should be.

When you go past your summer removal date, you have to deal with another source of the frustration - it is impossible to get appointments that are not during school hours. And when the orthodontist is overbooked, your child is missing 2-3 hours of school.

Thanks for the excellent information everyone. Such a shame to see things unfold this way.

Agree with all the above. I only stayed with our already scheduled appts. after receiving the letter that he was selling the practice because he was staying on for another year. At our follow-up appts. I could tell the passing of the baton was not going smoothly at all. It felt disjointed and they seemed to have different approaches. We always loved it there and I'm regretting that we just purchased a retainer for my daughter during this transition. My older daughter is between brace phases with a retainer during the interim and I won't be going back there for Phase II. I now have to call to see what remaining fees we are on the hook for. Anyone else that can transfer to another ortho who was used to the level of service and care under Dr. Wiger move now and don't look back.

We know the Wiger's personally and he has treated all of our kids. I know that he had planned on staying, but that it became impossible. It has been extremely heartbreaking for their family. Their hands are tied as they are not able to communicate how they feel to the communities they have served for almost 25 years. As far as "checking out 6 months ago" CMBM, nothing could be further from the truth. He is and always will be my favorite doctor. Period.

We were in the Ashburn office today and only 1 staff member from Dr. Wiger was there, the rest are gone. Hope they left to find better opportunities. I am still not pleased with the new Dr. She promised us at our last appt that we would get a date to have the braces removed, and she did not keep her promise, even after I reminded her of her promise and our previous issues with expectations. She is managing her patients and expectations terribly.

It looks like the new lady shoved Dr. Wiger out the door, as he had stated that he would be around for a while longer and would be actively treating patients.

Anyone is looking for ortho work or just getting started, please go somewhere else. This practice is no longer the great place it used to be.

By the sounds of things it doesn't seem as if it is going very well here. If they ever close, can we get Glory Days to come back?

Dr. Casagrande at http://www.ashburnsmiles.com/meet-dr-casagrande (703) 574-2174, is the absolute best! My whole family (including me and my husband) have been going to him for almost 8 years. His office treats you like family and the care they provide is cutting edge. I visited other orthodontist's offices before deciding to go to Northern VA Orthodontics, and none compared. I also heard many of Dr. Wiger's former employees have gone over to work for Dr. Casagrande. Another testament of his reputation. Hope this helps!

I know the owner of Glory Days and have interviewed him for my MBA program nearly 15 yrs ago. I know he and his partners put in $1.5 m into that place. When service was at an all- time low and customers stopped coming, GD decided to shut the place down because they weren't making enough to cover costs to keep the place open.

I have been there several times and I saw the place was nearly deserted and food came out cold twice...too many of their servers were standing around kitchen door texting away. I remarked to manager that I foresee that they would shutter by end of the year at the time. In fact, they did before the yr was out. That's how bad they were doing.

I had a similar horrible experience at Wiger Ortho today. My daughter had seen Wiger for the past 7 years, braces came off at the end of June when Wiger was still there. Today our first visit back. Things did not seem right so I asked the lady at the front desk if Dr Wiger was still there, she seems to have a standard answer to "where is Dr. Wiger" down pat. She said I don't know a thing, the day I came here he was gone along with all his staff and nobody told her why. Probably not the message you want your front desk to me telling patients. So on to my daughter whose teeth are seemingly reverting back to her before braces appearance even after retainer use. I ask the new doctor what is going on her response "I don't know." She asks me, why did she have braces to begin with...! I could go on and on right now I am so furious. I spent loads of $$ with Dr Wiger only to have this as the outcome. Likely that my daughter will need to go back into braces. This new dr. had no explanation and seemed to have no concern at all about the situation. Meanwhile, other kids were sitting in chairs for an hour or more, 3 techs working and every chair full. Loads of people in the waiting room as well.
If I were Dr. Wiger I would my name and likeness removed from everything she touches. I assume there are some legalities behind that but I am not sure what kind of due diligence was done on this new dr before agreeing for her to buy the practice. I am sure this is not her first rodeo nor her first unhappy patients. The place is in shambles.

I'd consult an attorney if teeth revert and dentist doesn't give a hoot about it.

Follow up to my earlier post. We visited nova orthodontics today (DR. Cassagrande). Great staff, very kowledgeable and as someone else stated in this thread several of wiger' techs are over there now and happy. As expected they reccomended my daughter go back into braces after only being out of braces since June! Of course that comes with full payment of ph 2.
Has anyone attempted to get refunded by dr. Abbizi yet? If so how did it go?
