we have lived in our house for 12 years. it has always been either a light bulb issue or the sensor was covered up. neither one is the case now. Whose responsibility is it to fix the light? anyone have advice

if its off and won't come on.. usually it's a GFI outlet tripped somewhere. The house lights are all the property owners..

If you do not have a tripped GFI, it is almost certainly the sensor on the light post. Cut power to the post, remove sensor, go to Home Depot, and get replacement. Easy to install.

Best thing is the sensors at home depot will allow you to use a CFL now so that will save money and last longer than incandescents.

meh, go LED. Much less fragile than CFL's, and use less mercury.

Thought I would just add in here...my light went out and it took me forever to find the GFI that had tripped. It was located next to my water heater. Check your bathrooms and kitchen sink area in case you can't find it.

    Hi All,

I had the opposite problem — the light detector stopped working on the light poll and the bulb would stay on all the time — after a week it would burn out.

Installed this bulb 9 months ago and no issues since: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-...l-Dawn-CFL-Light-Bulb-2-Pack-171770/203320817 has a built in light detector.

Because I know I have power going to the light bulb, my long term fix would be to cut the power and replace the photo eye with this and fix any wiring.

CFLs brighter than LED and cheaper too. That's why I use then in my post light.

mine was mysteriously out too, turns out that the wire for it had disconnected inside the outdoor socket next to the garage. (might be the case for you too, if no light works in the post even when you take the light sensor out, and only 1/2 the outdoor socket gets any power. That was a long afternoon of troubleshooting.)
