Road Treatment - Sand

Is it me or does anyone else think that the Broadlands roads are piled high with too much sand after the snow? I understand on hills but the trucks dump tons and tons of sand on flat roads. Many communities stopped using the sand due to storm drain clogging and the environmental impact.

Do these guys get paid per ton sand that they put down? Each spring it seems like a beach in front of my house. Making sand castles are fun though.

 

It's a valid question although some would say you cannot put a price on safety. However, the same can be applied to the mulch they dump on the grounds every spring and fall as well as HLS riding the mower over the same strip of grass multiple times and then returning to do it again. I imagine the answer would be 'it's included in the contract.' It's excessive and wasteful, imo.

 

Most of the roads are maintained by VDOT. In the Spring, I have seen Brambleton clean the streets. Not sure if they contact VDOT to do the work or contract that out. If you see a lot of debris after the winter, I suggest you follow up with the HOA.
