Need Advice disposal of old 51" TV

How do I dispose of an old 2003 Sony 51" Widescreen HDTV (KP-51WS510)? It still works, but has no HDMI.

• Is there an electronics recycling service/event for this?
• Any place accepting this for a fee? how much?

I checked BestBuy, they recycle TVs for $25, but has a limit - Tube TVs smaller than 32" or Flat Panel TVs: LCD, Plasma, LED smaller than 50".

Suggestions?

You have to haul it to the dump or pay for a special pickup...I think it is $75.

My kid an I dismantled the TV and threw it away in pieces in trash over time. Didn't have to pay anything extra for that.

A television is considered hazardous material so just be careful. Try calling Patriot too.

I think Dan Thiewes has a shred event coming up in April. They usually accept old electronics or they did as of last year. He has posted here before so you can do a search and contact him directly.

I'd still take it to Best Buy. I doubt they would pull out a tape measure.

 

+1 on Best Buy, that is how I got rid of a big screen recently. Just pulled up to the door, went inside and told them what I had and they sent someone out with a dolly to take it.
