Below is the latest update as recently received at the February 27, 2018 Communications Commission meeting regarding the selection of a new service provider for your Development. "The Southern Walk HOA Board of Directors voted in favor of entering a short-term bulk-billing agreement with Verizon for broadband internet service for each resident in the Southern Walk HOA. Verizon will also offer a full menu of telecommunications services to include video package options and digital voice services as an added cost; billable directly to the homeowner. The details and terms of the agreement remain under discussion and are predicated on Verizon receiving the necessary construction permits and access easements and resolving an issue involving blanket easements that were granted to OpenBand in 2001. The original deeds required the blanket easements to be replaced with Utility and Access Easements of specified dimensions as the telecommunications utility construction work in Southern Walk was completed. However, the blanket easements remain and there are no plats filed in the Loudoun County public records showing the location of OpenBand's facilities or any record of a specified Utility and Access Easement for telecommunications services. OpenBand and Southern Walk are discussing the necessary documentation and steps to clear up this issue. OpenBand will retain a perpetual right to provide telecommunications services to the Southern Walk Community." I thank-you for your patience and will provide further updates as they become available. I think the HOA fee will rise due to the collection of Verizon fees for the Internet services.

Good question on the start date of the services....that's probably not going to happen for awhile since Verizon would have to lay cable to make the service happen.

The info above came from an inquiry that I had posted to a Loudoun County site back when SW initially sued Openband...trying to understand what the county's role was, etc. Every once in a while I get a random update from the site. This was the latest one.

Says the guy who does not even live in Southernwalk, attend meetings or have personal discussions with the SWHOA Board? I like it much better when you stick to your usual well thought-out, organized and intelligent commentary.

Can we please try and keep this forum to important announcements and related exchange? If you think the SWHOA is withholding information, you are entitled but I am just trying to avoid taking the discussion off on a tangent. The Board has been very transparent during this new phase of management (my opinion of course), but lets hope other residents are asking questions too. But I feel like that are giving the "full story".

Is this a bad time to ask about the status of our legal fee refunds?

Nope. Do you have the former Board President's mailing address? You can send your request or legal demands there.

It was on LEx (Loudoun Express Request System). https://www.loudoun.gov/servicerequests This was back when the Openband franchise agreement had expired and I believe someone had posted a request that homeowners formally request that our neighborhood be serviced by another provider, so I submitted one on their website and it is still open and being tracked.

Two months ago, they updated the status to say that "Proposals have been submitted to the Broadlands Southern Walk HOA by Comcast and Verizon FiOS, and are in the process of being evaluated by the HOA."

The request # is #798739. If you do a search on 'Openband', you will see quite a few of them.
