An attempted break-in Windemere neighborhood. From the Sheriff's Office:
shortly after 9 p.m. tonight deputies with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office responded to the 42800 block of Bittner Square for a reported burglary in progress. The resident reported hearing a noise and then observed an unknown male fleeing from their home.

The suspect was described as being 5'8" to 5'10" tall with a medium build and was wearing dark clothing.

The area was searched with the assistance of the Virginia State Police and the Fairfax County Police Department. No suspect was located and there is no indication of any threat to the public.

Residents are encouraged to report all suspicious activity by calling the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-1021 or dial 911.

Tell the kids this is why we keep the doors locked... and if you have one, put the alarm on at night while sleeping. Just in case.

Ironic that 11 days later I would be posting this. On Sunday at around 5AM someone attempted to enter our house from the rear door to the kitchen. We are in Southern Walk near the top of the hill on Ridgeway.

A person staying in the basement was woken by strange noises. I also was woken on the top floor. We both heard shuffling and several loud bangs that sounded like someone jiggling or banging on a door. I immediately turned on all of the lights inside and outside the house and investigated. Initially we thought it was an animal but on closer inspection we found one of our exterior outlet covers broken at the base of one of the windows, the window screen above it was pushed in and looked like someone messed with it, and we found damage to our fence. It looks like when I turned on the lights the person tried to jump the fence quickly and broke some wood.

We have filed a police report of the incident. We are not very far from the house that was targeted 11 days ago. The scariest part in all of this is that the person or persons doing this do not seem to care if there are people in the house. There were cars in the driveway and lights on in the house. Our back yard is fenced and we have locks on the fence doors. We have several dogs and an alarm system and they did not care. Please keep your windows and doors locked and I suggest motion activated cameras around the house.

The officer that came to that house said they are increasing patrols in the area.

Neither the dogs or alarm were alerted by all the commotion?

The alarm was not triggered. We have several sensors in the back of the house but the doors were locked and they did not get in. The dogs did wake from the commotion as well.

Yes that is scary. In the Windermere attempted break-in, the burglar did gain access to the first house and was confronted by a resident. Luckily, he ran away. He also attempted to break into 2 other homes in Windermere immediately upon running away. Very brazen. This is also happening in Brambleton as there were 4 attempted break-ins of a similar nature in the past month according to a Loudoun County Police press release recently.

It's all very unnerving because as was stated, this burglar, if indeed it is the same person, doesn't seem to care if people are home or not.

Hopefully he slips up soon and is caught by police.
