Scam Alert! Be Careful of Some Veterinarians in Ashburn

    Neighbors,

Be careful! Some seemingly reputable veterinarians in the Ashburn area (will not name specific ones as we live in a litigious world here) seem to think we are all rich idiots. I took my dog to one of them last week to have a bump on his back checked out. The vet did a cytology biopsy and sent me the report. The report recommended a full biopsy, which entails minor surgery for a day. The estimate came in between $1,600 and $2,100. This seemed a tad high to me, so I shopped around. Another reputable vet in Winchester examined my dog and reviewed the cytology results and agreed that a full biopsy was needed. This vet provided me an estimate that came in between $500 and $600 for the exact same operation, all in. Not wishing to pay $1,500 more than necessary, I have scheduled the operation for my dog in Winchester.

I think the vets in Ashburn must think we are all just too busy and rich to care about what we spend on pet health care. Maybe some of you are. But, for the rest of you, I found the Ashburn vet's estimate to be frankly insulting. Drive west 45-60 minutes, and you can save 60-70 percent on your veterinary costs. By the way, other than being a customer, I have no affiliation with any veterinary business.

I feel the same about car dealers service shops.

That can be said with just about any service business in this area... the name "Cashburn" did not come from nowhere. I have a long list of examples. And thanks for sharing.

I have two giant breed dogs and have found that using a mobile vet from Round Hill suits them best. The surprising part is that is still costs less than a few notable Ashburn vets even though they come to my house to see the dogs.

My husband and I often ask for the Manassas price instead of the Ashburn price.

We used to love our vet but they recently became incredibly expensive and changed the free follow-up policy. That one change just added $600 to an issue our dog had. We ended up having to find a specialist which just increased the cost but he's finally getting relief he should have had a month ago.

I am interested in learning more about the mobile vet as we are now in the market for a new vet

After our high cost experience with the hospital in Leesburg - we have been using Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates for our dog and it was recommended by another resident in Broadlands at the time. I am very happy with their service and prices. They also have a hospital so you can go for any emergencies. It's not that close by it's worth it when we need to go only few times a year if any.

Unfortunately the small businesses in Ashburn area are suffering from very high rent they have to pay and so their prices are reflecting that probably.

Unfortunately, I think that's the vet that I've used for years. I'm looking around for a different one too.

This is why we now go to Blue Ridge vet in Purcellville. Worth the drive. Much better cost. Excellent care. Open 24/7.
