Robert - we (the Community) have already negotiated a 3-year contract for Internet. That pricing does not apply. For 1,0 Gbps speeds our price will be $69 a month. And we will still have an SWHOA fee on top of that...I hope around $15 - $20 a month. We also have negotiated rates for phone and TV packages.

    Good morning all,

Ok, so the internet access will most likely cost each homeowner around $90.00 per month (total price including the monthly fee to SWHOA). It looks like the HOA chose the fastest, but most expensive internet option for us. What do the phone and cable packages consist of and how much will they cost us?

I was under the impression that at the end of all this, we would have some options between different providers and maybe even different package options from each provider, but now that Open Band is taking their proverbial ball and going home, it seems as if we are once again stuck with a single provider.

A list of negoteated packages with their agreed upon prices would be a great help so the homeowners might have the ability to see if we can still afford cable tv and the like; we would like to know how expensive this is going to be so we may better plan our budgets.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, thx.

Tim, I would suggest doing some more in-depth review of the information available in this thread (and others), especially the original official post that includes the voice and video packages available to SW residents. Not sure if you are new to neighborhood, but we have covered the other topics extensively that you are asking about as well in both community meetings and through general announcements (especially the ability to have other providers).

Oh, ok; I've read this entire post as well as a number of other posts pertaining to this topic and have not yet come across any information indicating their would be any other provider than Verizon. If there are other providers we can choose from, please share as I have failed to read of one to date. I've been living here since February of 2005 and have had the pleasure of the two HOA experience the entire time, so I've helped pay for the law suits (that I disagreed with) and have seen what has transpired with this whole communications thing from its inception. However, I don't want to get into all that as it seems the choices we have been given are limited and the services and prices for same remain relatively high. After receiving the "good bye" notice from Open Band yesterday, I was forced to recognize the realization that I had to look into the prices of our new provider and I have yet to find anything that details the cable packages and their related prices, or the phone packages and their related prices (hence the reason I came on here to ask if anyone knew that information, or could tell me where I could go to find it). I went on the Verizon web page and looked at the information there, but after reading this thread, it seems the packages and prices on the Verizon page don't apply to us. So, I ask again, where can I locate the packages and related prices for tv and phone for residence of broadlands?

    Thx.

You could chose another provider if they offered service to your address... the catch was no one wanted to run services without at least some garuntee up front. So here you are.... paying Verizon a garuntee to get them to run their infrastructure.

The challenge with this is... it doesn’t advance you to more competition- but at least will get you better service.

I see; thank you Steve, so Verizon it is. No problem; I have them for my cell service already and have no complaints. Would be awesome though if someday we could somehow get several companies in here for all to choose from.

I hate to be a pest on this Steve, but do you happen to know where I can go to see the packages and their related prices for phone and tv? I'm assuming they have already been negoteated and chosen by our second HOA as "Zeratul" indicated in his post, referring to the activity in the past tense. I haven't received anything in my mailbox or e-mail with this information, so I have no idea of knowing what they consist of thx.

Good deal, sorry for coming into this at the end, but I hadn't received anything in the mail and rarely get the opportunity to get on this sight as I'm in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations where access is difficult. I will look for the original post and get the info from there, thx again for the help and your patience. Have a Happy New Year all!

Sorry Tim, I thought directing you to the first post in this original thread would also mean you see the attachment. Glad you found it. Comcast would not provide service without a contract...same as Verizon and their prices and service were not competitive with Verizon. Most of this is not published online because it was part of their bids, so much of this was discussed at the various public meetings. We would have to wait years for service to be available to us without an initial contract... according to feedback we heard from providers and the service levels we would get were not clear. Now that we know your situation better, please keep asking questions. Once your house is connected, there will be a special phone number for us to use to get connected and for customer service in the future.

Thanks Dave, and no problem at all not knowing my status (there's no way you could have). It was my fault for not catching the attachment on the first page of this thread but thanks to you gentleman, I finally found it so all is well. I'm a "boots on the ground" tactical kind of guy, not very smooth on the technical stuff, so I missed it, go figure, LOL! I wish I could attend a meeting from time to time but my travels make that all but impossible. I'll try and stay more informed in the future when I can so you all won't have to get me caught up to speed every time I have a question. Thanks again for all the help and for your time.

I don't think we know full video availability dates yet... it is being installed in phases (see the other thread for initial list). At the next meeting, perhaps this question can be asked as part of the update.

I'm trying to make sense of this rollout. We received a letter yesterday stating that Verizon construction commenced in October 2018. The letter also stated that “the first series of 304 homes…will be eligible to order service…February-March 2019.” The letter states that the community has 1,112 homes.

We also received a letter from Openband stating that service will discontinue on June 1, 2019 and that we need to find alternative service prior to that termination date.

According to the SWHOA letter, it took 4 months to do the first 304 homes. Assuming they do about 304 homes every 4 months, it will take about 16 months (from last October) to complete the project. That would mean that the last homes would be complete around next January/February 2020.

Obviously, those homes need some sort of solution before the end of May 2019 (about 8-9 months before Verizon will be installed - according to current pace). We can't go 9 months without service. Can you please explain what the plan is for those who lose service on June 1?

Remember, the service that you are talking about are the homes that have TV only from what I read. Internet does not stop on June 1st so it is hard to tell how many homes will be affected. And Verizon explained that installation would pick up speed and not take as long as your assumption.

Right, we are not concerned with internet. We are concerned that we will have no OB and no FiOS by May. I’ll have to call to find out the lead time to install a dish, but If we aren’t fully up and running with TV by early May, then we’d need to commit to a year (min) of satellite and have a dish out on the roof. Or go without TV for an underdetermined amount of time. SWHOA..Sigh..

You'll like the dish better anyway. Tried OB video for a week when we moved in and couldn't imagine using it for another week so went immediately to a dish. Unless FIOS can match the technology AND price, I'm thinking we will stay with them.

I went to DirecTV around 4 years ago and have been very happy. And you do not need to put the dish on the roof, I put mine on a pole right next to the house and the Network interface. Much easier to deal with and easily removable later if needed. But if you are stuck with just a couple of months in possible gap I would look to streaming options. And remember, the SWHOA had no warning that Openband would do this...hard to blame them. We all talked about this at many meetings... the possibility that Openband would do this similar to what happened in Lansdowne, but hard to know the timing.
