PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR PETS

Every day when I'm out walking my dog, I end up picking up 3-4 extra piles of dog waste... some piles are literally 10 feet from the dog waste bag/trash station! It's absolutely ridiculous.

Not picking up after your pet is extremely irresponsible... seriously, why do you own a dog if you're not going to pick up after it?

Last week I approached a young lady after witnessing her walk away from her dogs waste and politely told her to pick it up next time because it's bad for the environment and because children play in the grass...
A couple of days later I saw an older woman (I assume is her mother) walking the same dog, just staring at her phone, completely ignoring all of her dogs actions and bowel movements... now I understand where her daughter learned such terrible, thoughtless habits!

I've also noticed an abundance of signs around the neighborhood that people have placed on their lawns, asking pet owners to pick up after their pets. I imagine these homeowners felt the need to put these signs up after repeated instances of waste being left behind on their property.

It's such a shame that we live in a neighborhood with such awful, irresponsible dog owners, ugh.

Every year there is an article in the Broadlands Magazine about this. It is sad that people just don't care.

In fairness to Broadlands dog owners, the vast majority I have met while walking my dog are responsible and clean up after their pets. Its a few bad apples in the neighborhood (mostly teenagers walking their family dog) who are the source of the trouble. Thanks for cleaning up after irresponsible dog owners and for politely saying something when you witness this improper behavior. I have a dog I always immediately clean up after (it only takes seconds) along with the refuse of other dogs when they leave it on my property, or even worse, on the sidewalk where someone could walk in it. Yuck.

I greatly appreciate our HOA leaving plentiful dog bags along the trails, along with trash receptacles.

If the problem continues the HOA may wish to consider doing what condominium owners have started doing in Florida. They require the dog owners to register their dogs along with a sample of their waste with a company that can then identify the offending animal when waste is left on community sidewalks, playgrounds, etc. The registered owner is then fined, on an increasing basis, every time a violation occurs. The article also stated the amount of dog waste discovered in the communities was greatly reduced shortly after this program was implemented and fines levied. Interestingly, the residents who were the most vocal opponents to this program usually turned out to be the ones who were later found to be the most frequent violators...

Setting up a bio metric program to get a digital fingerprint on doggie-do? Interesting. What do the Florida HOA's do about the "barkers"?

Agreed...Broadlands does a great job providing receptacles and bags. Communities in Maryland, Tennessee, Utah, Minnesota, and others have implemented the dog waste DNA program. It has proven to be quite effective...reducing dog waste by 95%. In addition to reducing dog waste, it has also proven to be quite lucrative for the HOA. With the fines collected they have recouped the money laid out to implement the program and are making a profit.
